The Nocona Indians were
whoopin' it up Friday
night as the team evened
their season record at 5-5
but more importantly
earned a berth in the state
play-offs with a 49-35 road
win over the City View
Mustangs. The boys joined
the girls as play-off partici-
pants as the Lady Indians
later earned entry into the
third round of that play-
offs.

ourt stars start to 2012
candidate filings 16 days
Break up the fight .
By Tracy R. Mesler
On one hand, the political
picture for Montague County
cleared some this week
While on another things
just were put off for another
two weeks while lawyers
and judges wrangle over the
state's redistricting plan.
Up until Friday, candi-
dates for public office were
preparing to present their fil-
ing papers beginning next
Monday.
Then a federal court in
San Antonio put a stop to
that discussion because two
of the redistricting maps -
for state representative and
Congress — prepared by the
Texas Legislature are being
challenged in federal court
and the filing dates were
moved Friday in a compro-
mise worked out by both
sides.
Now, the candidates for
office face a 16 day delay in
the start of what now will be
an abbreviated filing period.
Meanwhile District
Attorney Jack McGaughey
formally announced he
would not be seeking re-
election (see his statement
elsewhere in today's Nocona
News). But because of an
existing state law he cannot
comment about his future
political aspirations until the
end of the month.
The 2012 political season
promises to be a busy one for
Montague County residents.
Now the filing period
does not begin until Nov.
28th, instead of the original
date of Nov. 12th.
Then candidates can file
for office with their respec-
tive county party chairmen,
but for the past several
weeks individuals have been
announcing their candidacy.
Under state law a candi-
date is required to designate
