To-day is tlie last day of thfj'dly time,
called the carnival, and the oliurch lias
absolution for nil kind of follies commit-
ted thin day. There is plenty time for
meditation and resentence lirreafter, so
enjoy yourself to-day and j< in the grand
masked promenade at four o'clock P. M.
lleei at the Alamo Plaza.
Alj. business men are hereby coniuiaud-
ltd midor penalty of death to close their
iloors to-day, the 17th of February, at 3
o'clock P. M„ wlieu the great procession
of the King of Carneval passes by.
By the King himself, HEX.
Attest: A. Fool
* Tin-: all-absorbing theme is the mask
«d ball which took place Saturday last iu
the Casino Hall and was undoubtedly the
most biilliant and gayest affair of the
Mason. The hall was illuminated by a
hundred gas lights and handsomely deco
rated. Every preparation mat made for
the convenience ot the masked aud the
thank of the association is due to those
into whose hands the management of this
•utertaiiiment has been laid. The gather-
ing of the masked commenced at an early
hour and about ten o'clock the scene was
a bewildering maze of curious and fantas-
tic costumes, representing every era and
age, every nationality and several lan-
guages. Stately knights could lie seen
dancing with peasant girls, priests of all
denominations iu close -connection with
flower girls or aim rs, without loosing
their serenity. There were Indians aud
negroes, starry queens aud washerwomen,
liliputiaiiN and giant-babies, auctioneers,
soldiers, harlequins of every description,
postillions, liighlanders, ete. etc. At about
one o'clock a splendid supper was served,
after which the dancing was renewed and
was continued till after tive o'clock.
For several weeks has this grand bal
masque been looked forward to, and now
that it baa couie aud gone it is question-
able whether it has left a single tegret or
disappointment.
Manufacturing tbo best Scale in the
world, and making it a poilit to spare no
expense in order to maintain the reputa-
tion acquired during a prosperous career
of over forty years, the Messrs. Fairbanks
are always foil ot orders. Their business
thus far this year is largely in excess of
the same period in 1873. Among their
orders in Jauuory was one for twelve
Railroad Track Scales. Last week tbo
Compauy made eight hundred Scales.
They also purchased for immediate deliv-
ery seven humdred tons pig iron ; but at
the rate the furnaces are now consuming
iron, this amount will last less than two
months. Ou Monday of this week they
received an order from Chicago for twenty
two fivehundred-lnisbel Hopper Scales-
America leads the world in this branch of
industry, and the Fairbanks Scale is the
acknowledged standard. d2t

Nature's Cathartic.
No medicine is needed to keep the how-
els iu order as nature's cathartic, the bile,
flaws freely and legularly from its source
in the liver, aud is of the right strength
aud quality. But the grunt biliary gtaud is
eafcily disordered, aud the cousequeuces of
its irregularities are serious. To bring il
back lo its natural condition when thus
aliected, Hostetter's Stomach Bitters
should be taken at least twice a day until
the disired object is attained. Constipa-
tion is dud to n scant supply of bile, or to
a lack of the stimulating element iu .hat
fluid. Iu either ease mere purgation is
useless. The liver must bo compelled to
yield tpe supply of the bile necessary to
remove the waste matter from the system
at least once in twenty-four hours before
a radical cure of costivenesscan be accom,
plisbed. Hostetteri Bitters produces this
effect. Its action upon the stomach and
liver is direct and salutary, and though
there organs it regulates and invigorates
the whole frame.
Messrs. MANDELBAUM & RILLING
keep the largest stock of leather and (hid-
ings in the State, they only keep such
brands of French and German calf skin as
have already gained a reputation ; they
also manufacture boot, gaiter & shoe-
uppers of all kinds and styles. Merchants,
shoemakers and saddlers would do Well
to examine their stock before baring
elsewhere. [25-9-d-w-3ni.
