tan racing season of 1918 opened today at
the Aqueduct Park track, and today's
program was carried out without inter-
ference and with only slight change* In
the usual system of belting.
Outwardly (here were no signs that n
stubborn legislative fight has been waged

clouds and a cold drizzling rain and an
east wind which drove in an ocean mist,
which for a time obscured the further
outlines of the track, characterized the
weather. In spite of these disagreeable
conditions, however, there were lo.OOO |
spectators in the grand stand and on the

usual, hut there were certain restrictions
on both the bettor ana the bookmakers.
For Instance, no more than 125 books
were <llowed in the main betting pavilion

cases of two men who conduct ft

with conducting a lottery scheme. Juags
Mays rendered a Judgment of. guilty
against each of the defendants and fined
them $100 each. The cases will be ap-

Kyle Citizens Have Not Yet Present-
ed Petition for Removal.

SAN MARCOS, Te*., April lS.-The
Commissioners Court has been in session
today examining plans for the new Court
house to be erected in this county.
The citizens of Kyle nave been working
hard to get the requisite number of sig-
natures of the freeholders of the county
to justify the court to order an election
to remove the Court House from here to
Kyle. They have not yet presented thelp
petition to the court.
