The Ladies of the United Fiiends of
Temperance will do great harm to the
morals of this community if they do not
attend the regular meetings more punc-
tually. We know a number of weak
brethren who would go by the board if
they were not sustained and encouraged
by the smiles of the ladies. Anil, some-
how, they do not wish to get any stronger,
they prefer this delightful weakness and
dependence, and rcjoioe in the gentle help
accorded to it. "Woman has a mission,"
some hare said, and this is a part of it—to
help us poor, weak men. Don't forget it,
ladies.

Moss. Bessieres, having seen in the
Express of yesterday evening the state-
ment abont the remarkable butterfly dom-
iciled in onr office, called upon ns this
morning, and, for a wonder, found it still
there, tbongh evidently making prepara-
tions to depart. He said the specimen
was very rare in this country, and that it
was strange it had not left. He said it
was wonderful that it had staid all night
in the samo place.
Mr. Bessieres has a large collection of
such things, and takes great interest in all
the entomological productious of the
country. He said that this was of the (!e
tills Erebia, and that its nativejregiou was
in Cayenne, Central America. It is about
four indies from tip to tip of the wingst

colored.

Courting IMsease.
Tho individual may be said to court
disease who exposes himself to the mias-
matic influences which give rise to chills
and fever and other malarious epidemics
and endemics, without previously fortify-
ing his system agaiust their insidious at
tacks by the use of a protective mediciual
agent. The hardiest constitution is by uo
means proof against such maladies, much
loss one naturally weak or bilious, or the
antagonistic power of which is lessened by
au Irregular habit of body. The inhabi-
tants of the bottom lands of the South, of
the new cloariugs of the Wost, of snburbau
districts where sunken lots exist, of every
locality of the American continent, in fact,
J here malaria is epidemic or sporadic,
eclare that the only true antidote to the
miasmatio virus that they have ever used
is Hostettcr's Stomach Bitters. There
seems to bo something peculiarly resistant
in this staudard preventive aud remedy to
all hurtful atmospheric influences.
