Sweeny, Chavez, Schreiner, Degener, Kiol-
bAssa, McAllister and Muenoli.
The Mayor stated that ho had appointed
Jas. T. Thornton as agent of the City to
•ell bonds. Approved unanimously by the
City Council.
An ordinance providing for tho removal
of city officers was read and passed unani-
mously.
Local amateurs can give theatrical and
dramatic performances, concerts, without
being required to take out a license, pro-
vided the avails are to be applied to pub-
lic, religiouB and charitable purposes.
A communication from G. Freisleben in
regard to the bridge over the San Antonio
Valley Ditch on Austin street was read,
and a motion of Alderman Degener, that
the resolution passod at the Uipt meeting
of the Council, charging the amount above
the contraot price, bo resciudod, was car-
ried unanimously.
llulos governing meetings of City Couu-
oil wore read, and on motion of Alderman
Hahu. referred to a special committeo of
three, with instructions to roport at tho
next meeting—carried.
The report of Publio Improvement Com-
mittee on resolution of Alderman Teel to
have the banks of tho Madre Ditch elevat-
ed was adopted.
Elm street-is to be macadamized, and so
is Water street and South street, and the
work is to be let out.to tho lowest bidder.
Alderman Degener wanted tho matter laid
over until there wag money on hand to pay
for it, which resolution was lost.
The Alamo Plaza i* to be watered under
the direction of the Ditch Commissioner.
Mr. Duerler is to be paid the amount
due him from the city.
The matter of making assessments of
Alazan and Valley Ditches was referred to
a special committee.
Tho final account of Ed. Braden for
macadamizing Water street was presented
and approved in open council.
Pat Welsh is to b» paid for bridges and
mason work on Alazan Ditch.
North 3rd street is to bo graded and
oovered with gravel.
Mr. ICilliuan wanted permission to opon
a plaoe of amusement on the West side of
the Alazan—laid on the table.
Report of Committee on rook wagons
was read a sooond timo.
The City Engineer is instructed to ro-
port in regard to the extension of the
drain on Convent street.
Ordinance providing for fencing City
Cemetory was read second and third timrf,
and passed.
After the 1st of July the money allowed
the San Pedro Park is to he spent under
the direction of the Mayor and Public
Improvement Committoe.
Alderman Dashiell moved to havo the
appropriation of $50 per month rescinded,
but it was lost.
, A Committee of three is to be appointed
to draw np an ordinance providing for
the unpounding of'animals.

According to tho Chronicle, a New York
insurance journal, of tho 17tli inst., tho
losses by the fire in the United States and
Canada during the month of May amount
to $9,384,800, of which amount insurance
companieso are liable for |js4,335,100. Of
business establishments saw mills head

in number are hotels, 3(i; liquor stores, 23;
livery Cables, 22; lumber yards, 19; drug
stores, 19; oarpenter shops, 14; churches,
thirteen.
Taw Prohibitionists of Iowa have called
a convention, and threaten to organise a
prohibitory party If their demauds are not
complied with by tho Republican Conven-
tion. The Repubticau press of the State
is very generally opposed to destroying
the party for the sake of pleasing the Pro-
hibitionists. It would be bottor to suffer
tho temperance extremists to travel oft on
their indignant ears than to enter iuto any
