Tub New Episcopal Church, near
Travis Park, and which has stood in an
unfinished state for a long time, now be-
gins to show Bome signs of life. Carpent-
ers, joiners, and, we suppose, painters, are
now at work upou it every day, and the
sound of the hammer, the saw, and the
plane may be heard continually. We sup-
pose that the chnrch wHl now be finished
before the work stops. When completed,
it will be one of the tiucst and most artist-
ically oonBtrueted churches in tho State.
As one of the Bishops of the Episcopal
Church will probably reside in this city,
this is well. It will serve, in some sort, as
his Cathedral. It will be the only Protes-
tant Church of any pretentious to archi-
tectural design, taste, and style iu the
city. There is but little enterprise hero in
in that direction.

The Faust Case. — Not long after tho
murder of Miss Voelker, and the dreadful
wounding and mutilation of Mrs. Faust,
at New Braunfels, while scores of inno-
cent persons were beini|#rrested, the Ex-
press hinted generally That the real mur-
derer was in New Braunfels all the time.
It hinted also that jealousy was the eause
of the crime. Since then Mr. Faust at-
tempted to fly, and has been recently ar-
rested. A dispatch from New Braunfels
says: Great excitement prevails at pres-
ent in rogard to the arrest of William
Faust, the supposed murderer of Mrs.
Faust, his wife, and Miss Emma Voelker
some time ago* He has been placed iu
irons, and will have a preliminary exami-
nation Thursday. They have a stroug
guard around the jail, to prevent any mob
from taking him away.

Tribute of Retprrl.
At a meeting of the St. Geerge Society
of San Antonio, held on Friday, October
30th, 1874.
George Cupples, M. D., President, in the
ehair.
A committee was chosen for the purpose
of drafting resolutions expressive of the
grief of the Society for the death of their
Treasurer, Mr. Henry Trenchard.
The following preamble and resolutions
wen submitted by said committee aud
adopted:
Whereas, in the inscrutable Providence
of God our friend and associate member,
Mr. Henry Trenchard, of England, Trea.
surer of the St. George Socie'y of San An-
tonio, Texas, has, after a brief illness, been
removed from this world, and
Whbreas, in his loss we deplore that of
an intelligent, active, and houorable gen-
tleman, as well as an enthusiasts friend
and supporter of our Society, whose place
among us cannot be filled ; therefore
Besolred, That we tender to his friends
and relatives in Euglaud the assurance of
our sincere, heartfelt sympathies in their
bereavement.
Resolved, That to Capt. Jno. W. French,
USA, Commanding Post of Fort Duncan;
Dr. C C Grey, Surgeon USA, Post Sur-
geon, Fort Duncan : X Callien, Esq. , L E
Voilland, Esq., and others of Eagle Pass
who befriended aud took every possible
care of our deceased friend, when he was
•uddenly prostrated by illness, far away
from those who knew him, we offer the
tribute of our unfeigned thanks, with the
assurance, that their names shall stand on
our records, enshrined in the grateful re-
gard ef every member.
Boohed, That a copy of these resolutions
be teudered to the editors of the city pa-
pers for publication in the same.

Committee. < R. Eager,

Whek a discoverer of any scientific sub-
ject, asks the co-operation of the learned
in science, to test the meiH and truth of
bis discovery by severe tests aud practical
results, and then to indorse ard recom-
mend it, iris fair to presume it is valuable
for the purpose intended. Such lias been
the course pursued by Messrs. Hall Co.,
proprietors of Hall's Vegetable Sicilian
Hair Reuewer. And all those who have
tested it (amoug whom we may mention
Dr. A. A. Hayes and S. Dana Hayes, Chem-
ists aud State Assayers of Massachusetts :
Walter Bumham, M. D. I'rof. of Surgery in
Penn. University, Philadelphia; Geo.
Gray, M. D., Professor ot Anatomy and
Physiology), assert it is the best prepara-
tion in use tor ail cnlaneous diseases of the
scalp. Restores gray hair te its original
color, preveuts the hair from falling oat,
creates a new growth. It is certainly wor-
thy of a trial.— Xnrbnryport HeraU of Gos-

Canning Disease,
The individual may be said to court
disease who exposes himself to the mias-
matic influences which givo rise to chills
und fever aud other malarious epidemics
aud endemics, without previously fortify-
ing liis system agaiust their insidious at,
tackB by the use of a protective medicinal
agent. 'The hardiest constitution is by no
means proof agaiust snclf maladies, much
less one naturally weak or bilious, or the
antagonistic power of which is lessened by
an Irregular habit of body. The iuhabi-
tnuts of the boftoni lands of the South, of
the new clearings of the West, of suburban
districts where suuken lots.exist, of every
locality of the American continent, iu fact,
where malaria is epidemio or sporadic,
doclare that the only true antidote to the
miasmatic virus that they have ever used
is Hostetter's Stomach Bitters. There
seems to be something peculiarly resistant
in this standard preventive and remtdy to
all hurtful atmospheric influences.
If tlie Druggist offers any kind of
herb-flavored alcohol for dyspepsia, billi-
onsness, or any other ailment, tell him
that lion want medicine, not a bur-room
drink. Ask him for Dr. Walker's Califor-
nia Bitters, the best regulating preparation
known, and which you know is free from
"Satan's Elixid." Reject all the fiery "To-
nics" and "Appetizers," atte cling to that
remedy. There is no medioine that, com-
pares with it. <

" 'Waters' Concerto Parlor
Organ' possesses a beautiful aud pecu-
iarly soft tone. The Concerto Stop is witb-
out'donbt, tlie.best ever placed in any or-
gan. It is produced by an extra set of
reeds, peculiarly voiced, from which tho
effect is most charming, and its imitation
of the human voice is supberb. For sweet-
ness of tone and orchestral efiocts it has
no equal."'— N. Y. time*. It,
Fairbanks' Scales.
Although manufacturers generally com-
plain, aud with reason, it is necessary to
say that there are exceptional cases of
very excellent trade. During the present
mouth, Fairbank & Co. have recoived
more orders for scales of all sizes than iu
any previous oorrsponding period of the
year.
Their connections have now extended
to the Island of Jaxa, from which far-eas-
tern spot they have this weok received a
commission to nialio large scales with
Asiatic and Spanish weights. This, like
similar orders to tlieir factories, came
through the British metropolis, and passed
by tho great European scalemakers. Their
scales are becotnming more and more the
standards of the civilised world, and the
wonder is that many other manufacturing
departments in metal goods do not keep
up with the Fairbanks' Scales iu foreign
aud home markets.—N. Y. Express Oct.

MkssH8. Editors:—My wife has bee*
atllictcil with what several ot our best
physicians called neuralgia of tho l^ead,
aud both eyes swelled to an enormous sizo,
the camera of the right eye bunted nud
ran out, as we thought. As a last resort
we called on Madam Hcury, who at onco
told what the troublo was, and pronounced
it eresypelas, and said the eye was not
entirely goue as sup'poscd, and Inw long it
would take to-give relief, as well as tho
length of time it would tako to cft'eot a
euro. Slio at onco commenced treatment
by applying the hands to tho head aud
eyes, relieving the pain almost instanta-
neously. I still thought it 110 use trying',
only to please, thinking nothing of that
kind could eflVct a cure, feeling she must
die.
But by perseverance in two weeks, the
longth of time tho Madam allowed, my
wife was able to open her eyes and walk
from her bed to a chair and all ov«v tho
room. 1 givo this without solicitation,
believing it my duty, and hoping tho citi
zeus of Shcrmuu may employ and give tho
lady encouragement to stay among ub.
Tho Madam has tho best of recommenda-
tions from the leading men and ladies of
Missouri and Texas. 1 remain your friend,

Dkak Madam—In the performance of
what I deem a duty I take pleasure iu
adding my testimony to that of tlie hun-
dreds who havo been henoiitted by your
healing powers.
I hud becu an invalid fur three years,
suffering from disease of tho lungs, tor-
tured with the most excruciating pains
through tho right lung and shoulder, ac-
companied with dispopsia. I could scarcely
■peak above a whispor, audi my strength
was rapidly failing.
Six weeks ago I came under your won-
derful magnetic treatment. Now tny voico
is completely restored, lungs free from
pain and apparently sound, and tny form
which seemed crushed aud bent by the
disease, is again erect and strong.
I havo heretofore been treated by very
many pliysiciaus who failed to render me
ought but touiporury relief.
In my new-found health and vigor, I
can but most gratefully acknowledge the
obligations I am under to your superior
