Entrance credit in solid geometry andt trigononetry, eiltier or
both, may each be counted as two hours college credit lXrovidled.
that, (1) these credits are in excess of those required for uncoinditional
admission, and (2) an average grade of at least B is made
on six hours of college mathematics in advance of the work on
which credit is requested. Application must be made for credit
not later than the end of the semester (sumnlmer session) in which
tlhe student enters college.
Requirements For Major In Mathematics.
In addition to the six hours of freshman mathematics the student
must have credit for twenty-four hours of work, twelve of
which must be advanced. The selection should include Mathematics
351, 352 (Calculus) or its equivalent. One year (at least six
hours) of physics is required. Majors in mathematics are required
to minor in education, music, natural science, physical education
or business administration.
A student electing mathematics as a minor must include
Mathematics 351, 352 (Calculus) or its equivalent in tie eighteen
hours.
310.-Solid Geometry.
For prospective teachers. Given only on request.
311.-College Algebra. (Given each semester)
Brief review of high school algebra, quadratic equations, determinants,
progressions, mathematical induction, complex
numbers and theory of equations.
312.-Trigonometry. (Given each semester)
Trigonometric functions of all angles, identities, logarithms,
and solution of triangles.
314.-Analytical Geometry, Part I.
Fundamental formulas, straight lines, circles, transformations
of coordinates, and thle conic sections. Prerequisite:
Mathematics 312.
315.-Analytical Geometry, Part II.
Conics in general, tangents, polar coordinates, higher plane
curves, three dimension points, plane,, lines, and surfaces.
Prerequisite: Mathematics 314.
321.-Determinants. (Replaces old 282).
Systems of linear equations, properties of determinants,
minors, factors, homogeneous equations, sum and product of
deternminants, and the matrix form. Prerequisite: Six hours
of mathematics.75
