DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SCIENCE
GEOGRAPHY
The courses offered in this department are arranged
to suit the needs of Texas college students and to give
them a fundamental knowledge of their physical surroundings
so that they may adjust themselves more
profitably.
A minimum of six hours of Freshman Geography is required
of students before Sophomore Geography courses
may be taken. A minimum of six hours of Sophomore
Geography in addition to that required above, must be
done before junior or senior courses are taken. Exception
to this rule may be made in special cases by arrangement
with the head of the department and with the approval
of the Dean.
All students electing Bible as major are required to
take Geography 329.
301.-Modern Geography. An introductory study of
'man's physical environment and its influence on the activities
of all life. Fall term.
302.-Climate and Man. A course which emphasizes
daily weather, atmospheric properties and elements,
weather forecastings, and the relation of such to man's
principal activities. Winter term.
303.-Regional Geography. A study of the production,
consumption, and importance in world trade of the
principal resources of the major geographic regions of
the world. A course in regional human geography. Summer
term.
304.-Industrial Geography. A study of the business
relations and activities in the production, movement, consumption,
and conservation of the principal articles of
commerce. The basis of this study is industry. Spring
term.
321.-Conservation of Natural Resources. This course
includes a careful summing up of the different sources of
waste, and a study of the best forms of reclamation and
conservation. Fall term.
