Department Head
The Department of Agriculture purposes to
give students technical and practical training in
the science of agriculture with special emphasis
on the opportunities for Christian service. You
may receive the Bachelor of Science degree in
agriculture with a major in general agriculture,
range science, animal science, agronomy or agricultural
business. If your interests are in vocational
agriculture teaching or veterinary medicine,
the College offers cooperative programs.
Three of the four agriculture teachers hold
the doctorate in their respective teaching fields.
Research projects in range and animal science as
well as demonstration plots of plant varieties
and fertilizer use are conducted by the department.Farm and ranch enterprises are operated by
the department to serve as a laboratory and to
provide student employment. As a part of the
training program, the department maintains quality
herds of registered cattle, horses, swine, and
sheep. The department owns the 100-acre Allen
Farm adjacent to the campus. The 600-acre
Aggie Acres lies 10 miles north of the campus.
ACC's judging teams have placed first in livestock,
range, and soils in state and national contests.
The department sponsors five clubs, all of
which are incorporated in the Aggie Club. Each
technical area (agronomy, animal science, and
range science) has a club affiliated with its national
organization. Delta Tau Alpha is a
chapter of a national honor society for agriculture
students sponsored by the National Association
of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture.
The Rodeo Club is affiliated with the Intercollegiate
Rodeo Association.
Graduates are qualified for work in Civil
Service, Extension Service, agriculture-business,
or on farms and ranches. Over 20 percent of
the graduates obtain advanced degrees qualifying
them for research or teaching.
