ART 353 Basic Visual Communication (24-3), fall, spring. An introduction
to visual message making. Analysis and construction of messages
through projects that make apparent the key concerns of the graphic
design profession. Theory and history of visual communication. Course

ART 355 Visual Presentation Graphics (24-3), on demand. Development
of visual presentations illustrating interior design concepts and solutions.
Rendering with color and tone. Course fee: $25.00. Prerequisite: ART 103,
105, INDT 117.
ART 475 Techniques and Processes of Print Media (2-4-3), fall. An in
depth look at the technologies of print media and the studio procedures
related to them. Projects and readings dealing with typesetting, printing,
ink, paper, binding, die-cutting, embossing, mechanical construction,
graphic illustration, photographic processes, computer aided design,
general studio techniques, and craftsmanship. Course fee: $25.00.
ART 554 Information Design I (24-3), fall, spring. Organizing visual information.
Emphasis on vocabulary development and an objective understanding
of page composition through the exploration of semiotic and
information theory. Investigation of systems of order in ancient and
modern times. Course fee: $25.00. Prerequisite: ART 353.
ART 476 Information Design II (24-3), fall, spring. A continuation of ART
554 resulting in portfolio quality work. Diagramming, charting, or
mapping abstract processes, signage, readability/legibility, attention/
comprehension. Selected readings and research in history, perception, or
technology. Course fee: $25.00. Prerequisite: ART 554, 475.
ART 477 Persuasive Graphics (2-4-3), fall, spring. Advanced graphic design
projects. Retail identity graphics, packaging, advertising campaign,
editorial illustration, display design. Use of metaphor in visual
communication. Course fee: $25.00. Prerequisite: ART 476.
ART 478 Graphic Design Portfolio (24-3), fall, spring. Graphic design
studio with emphasis on portfolio completion through work in areas of
deficiency. Investigation of specific areas of interest resulting in a miniexhibit.
Course fee: $25.00. Prerequisite: ART 477.Art Education
ART 565 Art Education: Secondary (3-0-3), spring, even numbered years.
History, theory, and curriculum for the junior high and high school art
teacher. Prerequisite: ART 545 and junior standing.

techniques, materials, and activities appropriate for elementary school
