material for students of the middle school and early high school years.

ENGL 557 Composition Workshop (30-3), on demand. Practice in writing
assignments and projects based upon recent composition theories.
Designed principally for public school teachers. May be taken Pass/Nonpass
only. Prerequisite: 6 hours of sophomore English.
Institute of Intensive English
The Institute of Intensive English (iIE) currently
offers two levels of instruction in English as a Second
Language: High-intermediate and Advanced.
High-intermediate students study English for 15
hours each week, and Advanced students study
English for 10 hours each week. Since the program
is intensive, IIE students are not permitted to study
other academic courses in the university until they
meet the minimum TOEFL requirements noted
earlier on p. 16 of this catalog.
The IIE is designed to meet the needs of international
students. The curriculum in the Institute is
intended to produce communicative proficiency in
