Church History (MA)

A concentration is available in one of four areas: Ancient Church History,
Restoration History, American Religious History, or History of Christian Thought.
A. Ancient Church History
Prerequisites:
(1) Twelve hours of upper division undergraduate work in History or the Historical
Field of Bible, including Bible 381-382 (Hist 491-492) Survey of Church
History, or its equivalent; Bible 583 Restoration History, or its equivalent; and
three hours in History.
(2) At least six upper-division hours of Biblical text courses.
Course Requirements:
Bible H 651, 652, 662, and 667.
Six hours in two other fields in the Bible Department.
Six hours elective chosen in consultation with advisor. For the latter, attention is
called to History 571 and 614.
Thesis.
B. Restoration History
Prerequisites:
(1) Twelve hours of upper division undergraduate work in History or the historical
field of Bible, including Bible 381-382 (Hist 491-492) Survey of Church
History, or its equivalent; Bible 583 Restoration History, or its equivalent; and
either History 117 (Civilization I) or History 570 (Ancient World).
(2) At least six upper-division hours of Biblical text courses.
Course Requirements:
Bible H 655 and 664.
Six hours chosen from Bible H 652, 654, or 656.
Six hours in two other fields in the Bible Department.
History 521 or 555.
History 582 or 583.
Thesis.
C. American Religious History
This concentration is offered jointly with the History Department. See History Department
section of Catalogue for degree description.
D. History of Christian Thought
Prerequisites:
Eighteen hours of upper division work in Bible, including six hours of Biblical
text, six hours of Biblical doctrine, and six hours of church history.22
