Temple Citizens Express Their Thankfulness
For a Good Year
We are thankful for the end of tho
wMfVlth 1'eacc and Victory.
We are thankful also for the fact
that our business has pa"»sed through
the crisis of the times In good shape.
Our friends and customers are In our
hearts today along with the larger
visions.
J. J. Booker.
THA
A glorious sentiment pervades the nation on this day—
the greatest, perhaps, of all our 1 hanksgivings.
There is in the heart of every individual a feeling of
sorrow and joy. A great victory on the field of battle has
just been won. Could we view that success without count-
ing the cost, well might we join in an hilarious celebration.
We are thankful that we are so big of heart, so
sympathetic in nature, however, that those brave young
men Who gave their lives so freely and courageously are
not forgotten in this hour of triumph. Their faces are yet
familiar in our mind's eye—their enthusiasm and vigor are
yet inspiring. There is no attempt to beg bereaved moth-
ers and fathers away from the grief so justly theirs. Rather,
there is a spirit to hallow the day.
With misty eyes we gaze upon the golden stars in ser-
vice flags either in our own homes or in the homes of our
neighbors and our grief is assuaged only in the realization
that no American has died in vain. We reflect and then
are thankful that the toll in life and blood has not been
heavier. We rejoice with the assurance of the early re-
turn of our heroes across the seas!" Hundreds of them now
are upon the ocean—speeding back to loved ones and
friends. Soon they will be at the family fireside—and we
are thankful. The dawning day of peace gladdens our
hearts and for the moment we f&rget material things.
This very spirit is what makes Thanksgiving on this
day so glorious. There are hundreds of things we can be
thankful for; but our individual welfare dwindles into
insignificance with the realization of the blessing bestow-
ed upon humanity. We think of the burdens borne by the
people of France and Belgium, England and Italy for the
last four years and we recall the desolation and destruc-
tion wrought in Russia, Roumania, Servia. We wonder
now how they endured. Groping almost helpless at times,
though, they carried on and never despaired. We realize
that yet we do not know what war means. We know only
that our men helped to conquer the blood-thirsty Huns
in that memorable fight at Chateau-Thierry and that the
doom of militarism was there and then forever sealed.
We count up what all this means and we are thankful
for the courage which inspired our lads to fight to the
death on that day.
We are thankful that we have emerged from the con-
flict an humbled people—thankful that all efforts are be-
ing made t6 prevent future wars. We are thankful for the
New World in sight—thankful unto God that humanity is
being blessed.
We Have Plenty To
Be Thankful for
Today
The war has been a menace but
the drouth lifts been a nightmare to
this section of the country. With
plenty of rains there is a chance for
Bell County to emerge next year into
the sunshine of prosperity and take
its place In the procession of forward
and upward growth of other sections
of the country.

With Grateful
Hearts
No Thanksgiving Day like this one.
No such outstanding blessings aver
before given a nation. We Instru-
ments of a Divine Will, In helping
make the world a better place in
which to live may well pause and
acknowledge the leadership and give
thanks unto Him.

THANKFUL!
A recent press dispatch stated that
the German soldiers were whistling
and tinging with Joy as they marched
away from the battlefront. It would
seem, then, that the whole world is
thankful toduy, with the one excep-
tion of the kaiser and his clan. And
the fact that they are depressed and
unthankful Is only another cause for
our, thanksgiving. Verily we have
much to be thankful for.

A New World
We are now entering Into a new
world, as much so as when Roman
domination created a new order of
things and when the fall of Rome and
the invasion of the Hun threw civil-
ization back Into the dark ages. Tho
Hun menace has been overcome,'for
