Armed with trash bags and gloves, Tarleton
State University students, faculty and staff from the
Stephenville and Fort Worth campuses took on the Trinity
River Saturday morning. Texans lent their support to the Tarrant
Regional Water District's 19th Annual Trash Bash and helped clean up the
Trinity River along River Park on Bryant Irvin Road. "This was a great opportunity
to combine the two campuses and do something great for the community/' said Leslie Mills,
Trash Bash participant and coordinator of Tarleton's online programs. "Bringing Texans together
not only builds bonds between the campuses, but also between Tarleton and Fort Worth." Clad in
purple and full of traditional Tarleton spirit, the Student Government Association was awarded the
title of "Greenest Group on Campus" for their contribution of manpower to the cause. "This is a great
opportunity for us," said Alycia Pruitt, president of SGA. "We are planning our own cleanup project for
the Bosque, and this was a great practice run." The Trash Bash is held each year at various spots along
the Trinity. For more information about TRWD and their future conservation events, visit www.trwd.com.

Recently, freshman Senator (SD-22) Brian Birdwell toured the campus of Tarleton State University. The Lt. Col. (Ret), who
is a Texan native and lives in Gran bury, won a special election to fill the unexpired term of Senator Kip Averitt. It was Senator
Birdwell's first visit to Tarleton.
"We're so proud of our beautiful campus and love showing it off," said President F. Dominic Dottavio. "It is a specia
privilege to have our students interact with Senator Birdwell, a man who epitomizes courage and compassion." Senator Birdwell
has served in assignments around the world including
conducting humanitarian operations post-Hurricane Mitch.
In addition, he's been awarded a Bronze Star, a Purple
Heart, and the Legion of Merit.
While on campus, the Senator became acquainted
with President Dottavio, along with Alycia Pruitt, the
president of the Student Government Association,
Stephenville Mayor Nancy Hunter, Erath County Judge Tab
Thompson and other campus leaders. He also received a
tour of the grounds and visited the new Dairy Center.
"I'm grateful for the hospitality of President
Dottavio and his team at Tarleton State and appreciate
the important work they do in providing quality education
to area citizens," Senator Birdwell said. "Many of my
constituents in Senate District 22 benefit from the
programs and educational opportunities provided by
Tarleton State University. I look forward to working with
them in the years to come."
