darkies—accused of stealing.
—Georgetown is a city and
puts on city airs by arresting
and impounding all loose hogs.
— Yellow fever and quaren-
tinc now occupv the minds of

— The Hempstead wagon
bridge across the Brazos will
certainly be completed by the

— Houston merchants have
organized a company and will
proceed to the erection cf a
mammoth compress.
—Williamson county's bar
will recommend B. H. Davis, of
Bryan, for the supreme judge-
ship. The Waco bar does the
same thing.
—More wheat has been rais-
ed in Williamson county than
ever before, but prices are so
low that farmers are selling no
more than they'can help.
— During the past two weeks
about three hundred Houston
negroes have left for the cot-
ton fields in neighboring coun-
ties. Plenty of negroes are left.
— The contractor for the
Georgetown courthouse will
turn it over to the county this
week. He claims to have lost
between two and three thou-
sand dollars on the job.
—One Nicholson, a half
preacher and a whole sinner,
living in Burleson county has
been notified to * leave. His
room is considered more valu-a
ble than his company.
— At a meeting of the Hous-
ton city council held on Satur-
day the entire police force with
the exception of four were dis-
missed from the service. New
men will will be appointed.
—Cotton is arriving in Bell-
ville at the rate of from six to
ten bales a day. Here in Bren-
hani we are receiving from 150
to 200 bales a day, and have
ample facilities to handle twice
as much.

approving the whipping-post
law, the suggestion arises, so
long as the lash is applied in
the schools to tender children,
there should not be much sen-
sitiveness to its application to
hardened criminals."
— Columbus Citizen: In
some sections of the county
worms have riddled the cotton.
The damage is small; but they
trash up the staple. Where
rains have b£en less frequent the
damage is small —No excuse
for tramps; plenty of cotton and
good wages foi*^picking,
