TTBR TOWN OJaARHMHJTlta.
HEIpnblic attention is now called to this ekgibb location, with a
confidence that, the time has arrived for its resuscitation. Rivalry
and litigation have until lately prevented the proprietors from press-
ingit on the public notice; but all litigation has been arranged, the
rival interests of Harrisburg and Hamilton have been consolidated
under the common name ot Harrisburg, and from the growing com-
merce of this river, and the increasing dilhculiy of navigation above
this point, the proprietors feel no doubt that the day of success is at
lnT,rt.
The public will remember, that many years ago, this point was se-
lected and laid offas a town; that its commerce was equal, its build?
ingsas good, and its inhabitants as numerous as those of any oiher
town ofSouthern Texas. In the spring of 1336, Harrisburg was
burnt by the Mexicaus. In the fall of that year, betoro much had
been done towards rebuilding Harrisburg, the influence of the gov-
ernment was given to a point a few miles above on the bayou The
difficulty of making satisfactory titles at that time in Harrisburg,
prevented any attempt to compete with the new seat of government,
and the place remains' as it was, excep: that all arrangements are
made for making good titles to lots, for showing the grounds, and

some profit to those who purchase either for business or speculation.
Two saw-mills are now in successful and profitable operation, and a
ship-yard will in the course of the coming fall, be prepared for build-
ing and repairing Steamboats and small vessels. . We have no stone
quarries, it is true, but we have good materials for makmg bncks,
and an abuudance of good timber; and the proprietors hope that the
early buddings in Harrisburg will be of a more permanent character
than those of neighboring towns. Liberal encouragement will be

settlement in Hamsburz, both as to price and time. One-tenth of
the whole proceeds of the sales of property is appropriated to the im-
provement of roads. The proprietors contemplate the organization
in tne course oi tms summer or next tall, a great importing compa-
ny, to trade directly with nations beyond the Atlantic, which If buc-.
cessfidly organized, must produce wraith to the company, success to
the town, and prosperity to the county.

r"pHK UH'Y OK SAU1NE The question has often been asked
L " why there is no city laid out at the moulh of the Sabine 1"
This interrogatory is now answered. Public expectation and public
auxietywill no longer be thwarted. The undersigned, have laid out
a place called the cay of Sabine city, on the west bank'of the Pass
leading from the bay into the gulf of Mexico. The attention of the
adventurous, the enterprising, and the capitalist, is' invited to the
most eligible point, than which for trade and commerce, a better can-
not be found west of New Orleans. It is easy of access to vessels
not exceeding 9J feet draft, possessing a good anchorage along the
banks upon which the city is to be built of from 10 to 20 feet water;
and the harbor is protected from the influence of any storm. Nature
seems to hat e intended this point for a great commercial mart. The
trade of the country which mist here pay tribute, possesses as rich
a so-! and dense a population as any other portion of Texas. All the
country east of the Trinity river, must ship their produce through the
Sabine Pass, and receive their goods, groceries and provisions
by the same.
In product of the rich and healthy land, with its immense and al-
most boundless groves of timber that are upon the waterebf the Sa-
bine, Neches and the Angelina, must all go to market through the
outlet of the pass. Sieam boat navgation has been successfully
irua upon uie waicrsoi ine aaoinc ana ivecnes; tne sieame-s ve-
locipede and Wisconsin, measuring 125 tons, ascended the Sabine
river for more than three hundred miles above its mouth. The most
populous counties in the republic wdl, when the trade is opened, ship
their cutton to the gulf by the city of Sabine. These counties lire
