A stranded minstrel show at Lexing-
ton "lost the grip."—The manager
R. M. Perdue, eloped with Miss Rertie
Seaball—a beautiful 15 summers dan-
sense—an attache of their company-
after the performance at Lexington
last night. They hired a buggy in-
tending to come CJiddiugs during
the night and get married this morn-
ing, but not knowing the road lost
their way and roamed the woods all
night. This morning the Irate parents
who were also attaches of the com-
pany, missed their daughter and the
manager. So the father swore out a
warrant for the arrest of the manager
and with the Constable took the morn-
ing train for Giddings. "Then con-
•ternation reigned supreme." The
Constable arrested the love-sick swain,
who "cursed and swore" he would
have the girl or die. And the maiden
true, burst in a flood of tears. At
(ihidings a lawyer was demanded,
who advised the girl to go back to her
mamma. The father said, "if she
would he would dismiss the case
against her lover and pay the costs."
The lawyer, advised the manager to
accept the situation, bill the next
town and wait for a more convenient
time. So the irate parent, Constable
and lovers left Giddings together in a
hack for Lexington to re-organize
"the show." Later:—R. M. Perdue,
who attempted to elope with Rirdie
Seaball, was arrested at Evergreen on
a charge of kidnapping, but as Miss
Rirdie was over 15 years of age the
authorities turned Perdue loose.
"There Is a great deal of "grip" her#
but not fallal.
There are four cases of scarlet fever
here and one death from it.
A negro painter was lodged in the
"hotel de jug" for theft of a can of oil
to-day.
The commissioners of Lee county
have decided to "log-chain-up" the
old court house. Economy! blessed
l)e thy ^name; especially on olection
year.
The teachers institute met to-day,
with quite a number of lady teachers
present, but few male teachers on ac-
countof the inclemency of the weather.
Gentlemen, why don't you come?
Prof. Walden, of Austin, is teach-
ing a commercial school here.
Giddiugs is slowly, but surely build-
ing up. Several new houses are going
up and eight lots changed hands yes-
terday.
Several candidates have announced
lor county offices in the Gidnings
News.

Special to the Banner :

Liverpool market, shows a decline
to-day of 5 (<i> <>-<>4. Spot sales 10,000.
Quotations reduced 1-10. The market
on this side in sympathy sold off ten
points, a buying demand, however,
develoyed itself, and there being no
disposition to part with holdings, the
buying to cover demand brought
a sharp advance. The market has
not only declined considerably from
the highest but every element
of depression seems pretty well dis-
counted. The movement of this week
was expected to be free and it re-
mains to be seen if we have
not already sustained the lower prices
to result from its anticipation. Our
Paris, Texas, advices a section State
from which the best crop reports have
been received, state that wagon re-
ceipts there for the past three days
were only <><> bates, and that the crop
is practically exhausted, nearly every-
thing having been sold on the last ad-
vance. The division superintendent
of the Texas Pacific railroad says that
there is 50 per cent less cotton on his
road from Dallas to Texarkana than
this time last year. A prominent
merchant and the largest planter in
southwest Texas quotes plantations
as entirely exhausted and says that
he does ' not know of any that
are holding cotton, Starkville
Miss., quotes stock of 300 baiesagainst
2,000 last year. Taylor, Tex., says:
"Our receipts started here on the 5th
inst., and ran up the 10th inst., 1125 to
150 bales per day. On (lie lltli they
dropped to 75 and on the ISth wo got
only 17 bales. Since there has only
been three bales in the town. A
buyer having representatives in thir-
ty towns in that section states that
liis purchases within the lastfivedays
have dropped down from 3 to 500 bales ;
daily to practically nothing. Port j
receipts thus far for the week 50,350 !
against 24,858 last year. Estimates at
this port for to-morrow are hi to 14,-
000 against 7,388 last year. Comtnen- j
cing next month ihe receipts of last i
year were on the ascending scale j
which will hardly be the case the
present season. Our spot market]
closed easy at 1-S decline. Sales 4,000 1
bales; sales to arrive 800 bales.

BEAUTIFUL SLEEP
—is an expression
used for sound
sleep. Nothing is
so gratifying to
r the nerves, heart,
and head, as perfect
sleei>—a companion of
good digestion and a
healthy liver. A tired
digestion fails to assimilate, or
tako care of, the food we oat. Some-
thing bracing or invigorating is needed for
tha liver, stomach, ana intestines.
This is where you will find Dr. Pierce's
Pleasant Pellets do the most good. They are
tiny, sugar-coated pills, scarcely larger than
mustard seed, made of concentrated botan-
ical extracts. Those " Pellets" are easily
dissolved in the stomach and absorl>ed into
tho blood, stimulating a flow of bile from the
liver, and arousing to activity all the glandu-
lar secretions. Thus they act in nature's
own way.
- -They're ana rant red to give satisfaction, or
money refunded, in all Bilious Attacks, in
Sick tlendaehe, Constipation, Dizziness, and
Indigestion.
When you have Catarrh, use tho sure rem-
edy—Dr. Sago's. $500 for an incurable case.
—Influenza is un epidemic at
Crockett.
The Complexion of a Clilnr»e
Is not yellower than that of an unfortunate
individual whose liver complaint has as-
sumed the chronic form. The eyeballs of the
sufferer assume a saffron hue, there is dull
pain in the region of the organ affected, the
tongue is coated, breath sour, sick headaches
usually but not always occur, and there is
sometimes dizziness on arising Irom a sitting
posture. Constipation and dyspepsia are
abo attendants of this very common ailment,
always in its aggravated form, liable to breed
absccsses of the liver, which arc very dan-
gerous. llostetter's Stomach Bitters wholly
eradicates it, as well as the troubles compli-
cated with it and which it originates. In
chills and fever a complaint which always
yields to the bitters, the liver is seriously in-
volved. This fine alterative tonic removes
cosliveness and indigestion, rhuematic, ner-
vous ami Iddney trouble and debility.

A Marshal Saved 'Life and Hair.
Montkckllo, Fla., Jan. 21, 1800.
For tho last eight years have been in bad
health, suffering with Malaria, Rheumatism,
Dyspepsia, Dropsy. My digestion was bad,
arid my hair-all" came" out; in fact I was
nearly a wreck. 1 had taken kidney and
blood medicines, which did me no good.
When I began taking P. P. P., about three
months ago, I was as weak as a child, t
have only taken four bottles (small size) and
to-day I am a well man and my hair has
"come again." I cannot recommend P. P
P. too highly. W. P. WARE.
