quest that all come in uniform.
There will bo a special train leave at

Tacky Party.'—The "tacky" party
iat the residence of Mr. W. E. Dwyer
on Friday evening was one of the
most enjoyable entertainments given
by tho Social Amusement Club this
season. Tho grotesque representa-
tions and whimsical figures wero so
perfectly ridiculous in the conglom-
eration that it would enlist a smilo
from tho most stern and unfeeling
natures. Tho host was eminently
equal to tho occasion and lent an at-
tr&aiion to this special party with
hie affable and complaisant wit.
Orrt) young gentleman, who attended
in hi« best Sunday suit, was dubbed
by the ladies "tacky as tacky could

There was a very pleasant gath-
ering at tho residence of Mr. W H.
Murphy on Friday evening, aud the
participants enjoyed such genuine
hospitality that they remained until
a late hour. And when they turned
their wearied steps homeward it Was
raining in torrents and the Exchange
hotel bus was called to tho rescue.
After taking fifteen or sixteen young
folks in the 'bus tho driver started
dijwn South Market str oet and driv.
ing into a little ditch tho whole
thing was capsized, leaving tho boys
and girls in a perfect conglomera-
tion, with no light, but th e winged
lightning of the storm, by which to
extricate themselves from t ho terri-
ble position. The horses wi^re per.

X Public Sale Day.
At Belton and other county sites
in tho state tho people have what is
commonly known as public sale day.
A certain day in the month is set
apart for this purpose, and parties
having stock, etc., for sale bring
them to town on that day. Persons
desiring to purchase make it con-
venient to attend tho sale, and hav-
ing an opportunity to examine a
largo quantity of stock offered for
sale are generally enabled to buy
just such an animal as they are in
want of; while on the other hand it
affords an opportunity to the stock
raisers to disposoof thier surplus
stock and, at the same time, realize
good prices for them. That such a
move on the part of farmers and
stock-raisers will prove profitable is
beyond the question of a doubt;
and we hope to see the plan adopted
by them at an early day. Perhaps
the farmers' alliance would be the
proper ones to take the matter in
hand and work it up. By all means
let's have a public sale day set apart
once in each month.

Duowning Case.—The
trial of Felix "Willie, charged with
the murder of his two little children
in the Earlywiuo neighborhood, was
commenced on Saturday before Jus-
tice Curry and was continued over
until Monday on the account of a
witness being absent. Tho evidence
introduced so far is substantially nfi
stated in a previous issuo of the
Banner, and there is scarcely a
criminating circumstance which
tends to fasten the terrible crime
of murder upon the defendant; but
merely shows that the little boy and
girl were drowned.
