of cotton, the first of the season.
He says there are a good many
open bolls in the patch—about 40
acres. In about two weeks he can
begin picking. The cotton was
planted m March and well worked.

A very unusual accidont occur-
red in a dentist's office in Philadol-
hia Tuesday last. Just as a lady
,ad taken a seat in tho operating
chair a torrific explosion occurred,
which made a wreck of tho room,
and from tho effects of which tho
young lady baroly escaped with
her life. Tho machine which ex-
ploded was a vulcanizer. Tho re-
port was like the bursting of a can-
non and tho havoc nearly as groat.
The dentist had touched a match
to the gas stove under tho vulcan-
izor which sat in tho open window
within a few feet of tho operating
chair. When tho gauge indicated
120 pounds ho turned tho gas down,
but ho evidently did not turn it
down far enough, and the prossuro
increasing tho explosion followed.
The lady will srfo tho dontist for
damages for injuries received and
clothing damaged.
