OUajXDIAS NEW?.
To the Public.
So much Las been &aid by rival
newsgathercrd in this city in re-
gard to tlie reliability of our In-
dian. specials, that we feel that in
justice to our * eople, in justice to
th<! Associated Press and in justice
to the leading dailies, which we rep-
resent as agents, we must explain
the accuracy of our news.
In looking ovtr the file of our
papeTrve find four different news
items of the recent Indian work.
Two are specials from Gatlego sta-
tion on the Mexican Central rail-
road. These came on the wire of
the Mexican Central road, in spite
of all any official of that company
may say to the contrary. We refer
any doubting Thomas to the records
of their office.
One item was given us by Hon.
Genaro Chavez, who accompanied
Dr. Torres, of the Mexican army, as
far as Gallego, while the latter was
on his way to report for duty at
^Jasas -Grandee.
The fourth and last item came
bj' wire from Bowie ttation, Arizo-
na, and the author of it ia our kind
friend Mr. J. L>. Miller, of the Pier-
son hotel, who has since returned
and is ready to attest the reliability
ol his news.
Mr. P. J. Clibborn, our special
ageiUand correspondent in Chihua-
hua, is now in this city, on his way
to southern New Mexico for this
paper. This gentleman w ill answer
for the accuracy of the news he
furnished us from Gallego station.
Now these, we admit, are sources
of information that are sealed to
ceitain individuals that perhaps
ought to be better posted. But be-
cause these men don't know the
news is a-poor reason to consider
Hie Times specials false. If t e
cook forgets the salt, there is no
reason why the consumer may 'not
supply it. \Ve have n.ore hidden
sources of news, that will furnish a
greater surprise to our doubting
rivals.
t.-
TO RKMOVK THE COCNTI SJBAT.
After having seen the names of
the signers of the peti.ion for the
removal of~the county teat from
Ysletato El Paso, we are forced to
say that the petitioners represent a
great number of our best citizens
and property holders. Tbeir in-
tention is to carry out their plans
as early as possible, and they con-
sider the work of the Ysleta peti-
tioners a useless and unnecessary
labor which involves much loss of I
time for them.
'* 77ie Pieraon.''
An exchange furnishes the fol-
lowing : ^The secretary of the city
council, City of Mexico, by order of
its president, on the afternoon of
Tuesday, summoned three Mexican
engravers and asked them to giva
ftiU^)iQion on the relative merits
of two engravings, one American
and the other English, which are to
ser\ e as bonds for the new million
loan. The engravers dt cided in
favor of the American work."
The gas question in El Paso is not
a difficult one. The more gas manu
facturers that present themselves
for a hearing before our council the
lower the contract price at which it
murV be furnished. Nothing like
competition to the consumer. The
opportune advent of the electric
light man has influenced the situa-
tion much.
LaansntKo has found water, and
apparently an inexhaustible quan-
tiiv. The Lordsburg people may
not be well informed on the enbject,
and therefore we inform them that
water is generally used fi.r drinking
and washing. A gront many El
Pa-o people h'.ve to be t< Id the
same thing.
Ciiftox is turning over a new
leaf—strange to say. It is going to
build a Methodist church. '"While
the lamp holds out to burn, the
vilest singer may return."
Silver City is appaiently as pros-
perous as ever. We are glad that
the lines of our near n ighbor have
fallen in such pl^nsir-t place.*.
Go to "Ths Pierson.'1''
They are talking ot" creeling
sampling works at Silver City. This
is a good move, and why not start
a similar one in El Pago?
One Albuquerque daily seems to
think the telephone is a novelty in
El Paso, because our new office has
ju?t been supplied with one.
The Organ range is the best min-
eral district in New Mexico, and it
is all "directly tributary to El Paso^
Is your Life Worth a Dolla--?
Perhaps that seems a high price for
it, considering how poor your blood
is, and now your whole system is
prostrated,debilitated, and enfeebled.
People na\ e been heard to say, under
suen circumstances, that they would
not give the toss of a copper for the
choice between life and death. But
when it comes to actually drawing
"•ear the grave, a man naturally cL-
back, and says he does not want to
die. Lile is very precious, and even
to a broken-down man it is worth
saving.
v-r.e dollar will buy r. botl; of
- Iron Bitters. That one dol-
or may start you on the road from
misery to recovery. A man must
take a very mean view of himself who
is not willing to invest that much in
making one serious effort to rescue
himself from deadly debility, and to
tep into the enjoyment of solid
health. Broicm's Iron Bitters vital-
izes the blood, tones the nerves, and
rebuilds the system. Its work i3
well known. Invest that dollar in a
bottle. 8
Where are we drifting to? What
is becoming of El Paso's Prospec-
tive immensity? Have we already
discounted our future greatness?
