At least 700 folks turned
out for the Fall Festival on
the grounds of H.G. Olsen
Elementary School on Sunday,
Oct. 23.
The event was sponsored
by the schools Parent Teach-
er Organization. The PTO
grossed more than $7,500
through donations and ticket
sales, according to Lisa Shel-
ton, the PTO’s treasurer. That
more than paid for expenses
involved in putting on the
event, Shelton said. Organizers
at press time still were work-

profit they made, she said.

Council makes appointments

The Port Aransas City Coun-
cil made appointments to three
city boards during a meeting on
Thursday, Oct. 20.
The appointments were made
to the Recreation Development
Corporation (RDC) board,
Library Board and Airport Ad-
visory Board.
The RDC is an entity that re-
ceives revenue from a half-cent
sales tax levied on Port Aransas
businesses to fund recreational
facilities and services in the city
with the overall goal of increas-
ing economic activity, partly
through tourism.
By city rules, the RDC board
consists of seven members, four
of them council members and
three of whom are not council
members or city employees.
They serve two-year terms.
The council voted to appoint
Debra Whiddon and re-appoint
Sharon Grumbles and Francis
Stokes as non-city members.
They were the only three who
applied. Whiddon replaces
Suzanna Reeder, who didn’t
re-apply to be on the board, ac-
cording to City Secretary Esther
Arzola.
The council also voted to re-
appoint council members Keith
Donley and Glenda Balentine
and Mayor Keith McMullin to
the board. The council made
Councilman Steve Lanoux the
fourth member, replacing for-
mer councilman Rick Pratt.
Two-year terms are expiring
for library board members Betsy
Churgai, Patsy Grimes and Gary
Ramsey. Alternate Helen Gar-
rett’s term also is running out.
All four, plus Pam Lewis Landry,
applied for re-appointment.
The council voted to ap-
point Landry and re-appoint
Grimes and Ramsey. They also
voted to re-appoint Garrett the
alternate.
As for the five-member Air-
port Advisory Board, terms
are expiring for Burt Jones, Jon
Christensen and Randal Johns.
The city received applications
from Johns, Jones, Edward Wiatt
and Claude Lamoureux. The
council appointed Wiatt, Lam-
eroux and Jones.
The council also reappointed
