Public Schools Week To Be OftsfirviH
Texas Public School* Week, March 2-7 will
be observed in Croabyton with an OpenHou'-A
Tuesday night and other event*, including local
Lions holding their Wednesday luncheon meeting
at the school lunchroom.
All parent* and friends of the school are in-
vited to visit the various buildings throughout
the week and observe the lcasses in progress.
A special invitation is extended to everyone
to attend the schools' open house Tuesday night
when work done by the students will be on dis-
play in every building. Special displays will al-
so depict programs of work in the different de-
partments, such as mathematics, science,
athletics and special education.
P-TA MEETING
The P-TA willhold a meeting at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday in the grade school auditorium, pre-
ceding the tour of the classrooms. Purpose of
the meeting is election of officers for next
year. All members are urged to be present.
Texas Public Schools Week is sponsored an-
nually by Masonic Lodges throughout the state
to promote and punctuate the good the schools
are accomplishing for the youth, homes, com-
munities and the state. Texas Public Schools
have existed for 115 years.

Found out I had It while reading the reams of information
sent out weekly by the Parks and Wildlife Department. It
means the desire of an organism to be close to a solid object.
The Parks and Wildlife people noticed it in fish who are at-,
traded to an artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico. In my
case, however, I am much more attracted to another solid
object .... a chair.

Team, announced Tuesday by
the Avalanche-Journal, and
Coach Jim Jefferies waa runner-
up to former local coach Jim
Eddlns of Seagraves (or the
Coach of the Year title.
Brooks Ellison was named
to the Honorable Mention list.

moist rosebuds on the rosebush on the northeast side of her home on

Family.”
He added that "poverty" Is
much discussed these days and
means different things to
different persons, but can still
be de fined in one word: poor.
He said, "This is not a new
word to those who aze first or
second generation on the Plains
and to many it is a noctalgic
word, but to many it is
reality."
The poor of yesterday,he
said, could make a living by
sweat of the brow, but the
poor of today are much more
despairing for the lack of
education in this age of
technology imposes a burden
few can endure.

Eagles Lose
Bi-District Tilt
The McAdoo Eagles were
defeated 77-59 by Quitaque for
the Bi-District title Monday
night.
The Eagles led 20 to 19 at
the end of the first quarter, but
Quitaque scored 24 points to
McAdoo's 12 in the second
' quarter to su-ge ahead to e 43-
32 lead at the half. Both teams
scored 14 points in the third
quarter. In the final period the ,
Eagles made 13 points, in-
cluding only five field goals,
while Quitaque scored 20.
Mike Fox was top scorer
for McAdoo with 18 point*.

"Cub Scout Spirit" war the
theme for the annual Blue and
Gold Scout Banquet last Thurs-
day night In the school lunch-
room Speaker for the evening
was T. L. "Tiny" Jones.
A covered dish supper was
served for Cubs and their fami-
lies and adult Scout workers.
Glenn Watts served as mas-
ter of ceremonies and Invoca-
tion was given by Stanley Nix-
on. Special guests were intro-
duced by Charles Freeman and
Weldon Jones, P-TA president,
extended greetings from ‘lie
P-TA, which sponsors the Cubs
locally.
Groups songs were led by
Mrs. Jimmy Karr.
Cubmaster A. L. Griffin
presented awards to Cubs and
Stanley Nixon welcomed new
members to the Webelos. Bill
Bennett expla lned the ceremony
of welcoming a boy into Boy
Scouts. l
Mrs. Paul Gilbreath served \
as general chairman for the
banquet and individual table
decoration were under direc-
tion of Cub Scoqt Dens and
committees of mothers.
Pack officers include Cub-
master A. L. Griffin; assistant
Cubmaster R. H. Farris, Jr.;
Mrs.G^lbr e ath, secretary;
Donal Parker, treasurer; Nix-
on, Webelo Advisor; Bennett,
