Presbyterians
Welcome Minister
The Rev. Mr. Alfred G. Taylor
of Charlottesville, Va., will come
to Bellaire Presbyterian Church
as new minister.
Mr. Taylor and his family will
move into the Presbyterian manse
at 5123 Valerie around Jan. 20.
He will preach his first sermon
in Bellaire Presbyterian Church
at the 11 o’clock Sunday morning
worship service, Jan. 30.
Mr. and Mrs. Taylor have four
children; Hugh Kerr, 15, in the 9th
grade; Deborah Hean, 13 and in the
8th grade; Portia Ann, 9 and in the
5th grade, and Elizabeth, 7, and in
the 3rd grade.
Mr. Taylor has servedaspastor
of the First Presbyterian church
of Charlottesville since 1958. Be-
fore that he was associate pastor
at First Presbyterian Church in
Gainesville, Fla. He is a graduate
of Davison College, Davison, North
Carolina and Union Theological
Seminary, Richmond Va. He has
an M.S. degree from Columbia
University, New York city.
Mr, Taylor is one of four boys
born in China while their father
and mother were missionaries
there. Mr. Taylor’s father, Dr. H.
Kerr Taylor, has served as as-
sociate pastor of the First Pres-
byterian Church in Dallas. One of
Mr. Taylor’s brothers, Walter, re-
ceived his M.A. degree from
S.M.U. in Dallas. Another broth-
er, David, is Educational Secre-
tary of World Missions. And the
third brother, Randy, served in
Tyler, Texas before studying in
Scotland. He is now minister of
the Church of the Pilgrims in
Washington, D.C.
Mr. Taylor will succeed Dr.
William A. Baine as minister of
the Bellaire church. Dr. Baine
went to Dallas to the John Calvin
Presbyterian Church approxi-
mately a year ago. The interim
minister, Charles E. Welsh, who
was Dr. Baine’s associate, took a
pastorate in Kansas City at the
John Knox Presbyterian Church in
October ’65. _
