of the most eminent scientific men in

the most thorough and searching

perfect knowledge necessarily made

I such man us Dr. Carr is now Editor
Prof. Baldwin.
Editor Dai lit Cresset In a
long windy two column article
whose chief characteristics are
vituperation, a gross pervertion of
lacts, and numerous assertions cal-
culated to deceive the public—quot-
ing statistics which never had an ex-
istance and can be proven false. Prof.
iS. S. Baldwin replies to my article
which appeared in tho Cresset yes-
terday evening. “Imbecile disciple
of crazy table tippings, and silly
character readings.” in regard to
sueli absurd assertions I would sim-
ply refer the Prof, to a few passages
m the books of .Samuel. Moses ex-
claimed would to God that all were
Prophets. In the Prophet Joel
v. e read “And it shall come to pass
teat l will pour out my spirit upon
all flesh, and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy-—your old
men shall dream dreams and see
visions. ' St. Paul taught tho Cor-
riathians concerning spiritual gifts,
also the gift of healing and speak- person
ing in diverse tongues, tho
ing spirits Ac.,—and says
your faith knowledge. The spirit-
nalist are a dais of poople who obey
this aposlalic injunction. They add
to their faith knowledge, and they
regret very much I hat'so many of
the slergy and teachers of religion
at the present day continue to mis-
represent and denounce as diaboli-
col tho true biblo doctrine. Justus
the Jews of old said of Christ—“He
hath a devil.” Not to consume
any unnecessary time, I will briefly
endovor to reply to a lew ot the
points put forth bv the Professor.
Unsays “I claim to do what the
mediums do.” And yet in tho lines
following he says it would bo
foolish to submit to am. tho tests” ,
i’u assume a position, and then t«

he regarded by the audience as an
annoyance, is a silly excuse to fall
buck on, and must ho so regarded ;
when you challenge mediums and

ing to give full and fair investiga-
tion and boasting that tho vile I

ot' the lieliijiv-Philoxophical Journal.
We happen to take that paper.
S. S. Jones is Editor and Proprie-
tor, and J. It. Francis associate Edi-
tor. So Professor tho man who came
to you was a fraud as you must now
admit, and we suppose like yourself
was intent only on making money
by traveling through the country
exposing spiritualism—and your I
little affecting scene with him where i
ho rushes from you presence “blub-
bering like a child” is all spoilod. i
Spiritualism will grow and thrive,:
table-tipping and rapping, will go
on us usual. It is perhaps too much
to ask persons of weak moral char- j
actor to champion an unfashionable
creed in advance of its general adop- i
tion. Such work is reserved for ,
men of heroic mind. The hue and;
cry against “imblcle disciples of
crazy tablo tippings” as you see lit J
to stylo us wo can bear. Before
j dosing we will briefly notice two
more points—ho Buys, “alter being
a disciple of this fatal faith for an
average of lour years” unfitted for
! the duties of life. He proclaims that
j careful statistics show this. Any
of ordinary intelligence, we
discern-' eiire not how great a hater ho may
add to bo of spiritualism, knows that a
more foolish statement was never
made. Thousands, aye, millions of
good people have been spiritualists
for twenty years and they aru
neither demented or unfit lor the
active duties of life, and are not
half so near the asylum as Professor
Baldwin is the jail.
Wo don’t wish to prolong the
discussion, and shall pay no further
attention to any articles emenating :
from the Professor’s pen. Instead
of pornmbi luting up and down
through 1 lie land obtaining money
under false pretenses, lie should be
an inmate of the asylum along with
some forty seven thousand crazy '
spiritualists whom he says are there.
