Saved by a Club.
“Here's a gun that saved my life once,”
said the big drummer at the Russell
House as he displayed a 6-shooter with a
bore large enough to shoot seed potatoes.
Then he told a thrilling story of a bloody
border encounter which sounded as
though some fellow had made it up him-
self.
“I never had as close a call as that,"
announced the quiet drummer, “but a
club saved my fortune down in that
country one time.”
“How?” asked the big knight of the
grip. ‘ ‘Clubs don’t go among those fire-
eaters down there.”
“I was sitting in a big game of poker,”
said the quiet one. “I had all my wealth
in a jack pot and held a bobtail flush. I
drew another clubanc) was saved.”—De-
troit Free Press.

“Well,” remarked Fitzgoober smiling-
ly, “I am glad to see that Bazzoo is in a
fair way to get well now.”
“Has he changed doctors?”
“Yes.”
“Who's attending him now?"
“No one.”—Sufmy South.
