any scheme of reorganization that
might tend to the betterment of the

redemption shall be in silver and for
the unlimited coinage of sliver, the
depositor of e lver bullion to receive
silver dollars from the mint at the
market price, and the government to
retain the seigniorage.

Washington, Jan. 10—Mr. Springer,
who was in oharge of the Carlisle oar-
renoy bill in the house, spent some
time this morning with President
Cleveland and Mr. Carlisle, meeting
them separately.
When SprlDger reaohed the house
later he would not go Into details of
the private conversation with the
president and secretary, farther than
to say there will be no abatement In
the effort to seonre currency legisla-
tion. It was accepted by members as
not only voicing Mr. Springer’s views,
but as definitely determining the ad-
ministration will go ahead wiih the
policy it has undertaken .
Springer says he knows of no new
bill, although the present bill will be
shaped to meet objections and com-
mand support. “But,” added Spring

ceived most of the money. Mr. Taylor
made efforts to realize on real estate
and first mortgages amounting to
$500,000. These assets have been
turned over to hi9 bondsmen and the
state will not lose aoeat.”

Councilman Charles A. Thierman was
burned this morning. Mrs. Thierman
perished. Thierman jumped from a
window and saved his life, but sustain

Erie, Pa,, Jan. 10—Union City, near
here, suffered from a disastrous fire
last night. The fire started in the
billiard room over Hayes aud Sima

from the third story of the building

Brooklyn, Jan. 10—An engine and a
train of empty oars on the Kings Ooun
ty Elevated road while switching at
the termiuus at Liberty and Snedaker
avenues today crashed through the
bulkhead, the switch having been left
open. The engine and one oar fell to
the street, the l eootid oar hung half
way over, but did rot fall. Frank
Ban ;ua?\ fireman lay under the engine
and was not r leased for fully an hour.

overruled the demurrer in Stevenson
Burks’s eight million dollar suit.
This holds the case in oonri; Burke
wanted ifc thrown out. The suit is to
raoover money alleged to have been
improperly taken from the Columbus,
Hooking Valley and Toledo railroad.

L-an Company In the Hands of Reolver*.
Sioux City, la , Jan 10—The Fidel-
ity Loan and Trust company passed
into the hands of receivers today. The
company owed $3,200 on six per cent
debenture bonds on which January
interest wbs defaulted. It is stated
further the floating deb!s of the com-
pany were $1,000,000, no part of which
has been paid. The only other state
ment, in the petition was that the oou
pauy was insolvent. Judge Wakefield
appointed Pre&ident Joseph Sampson
of Sioux City and Gideon H Candee,
of New York, receivers. Bond was
fixed at $25,000. This was furnished at
once and they entered into possession
of the assets of the company. It is
expected that the business of the oom
pauy will be continued. Judge Samp-
son psesl’ent of the company, said the
embarrassment was brought about by
the inability of Nebraska farmers on
aooount of crop failures to pay interest
on the loans.

Woodland, Cal., Jan. 10—James
Appetman, on trial for complicity in
the wreck!; g of a Southern Pacific
train near Sacramento on July 11 last,
daring the A. R. U. strike, was to-
night acquitted. One of the strikers,
Satnhel Wot den, is under sentence of
death for ihosame offense.

to accept 20 percent reduction in wages
the wire drawers of the Salem Wire
Nall Co., were ordered by Superintend-
ent Baaoks today to take their tools
from the mill. The men insist upon
