District honors community partners Theatre ah» winner
The C.H.I.S.D. Office of
School and Community Ser-
vices and the Community
Education Advisory Council
held the first ever CHISD
Community Partners Banquet
May 8.
Community Partners were
selected by each of the nine
campuses and the administration
staff on the basis of their posi-
tion as top business supporter
and top parent volunteer.
Kenneth Ervin, Assistant
Superintendent over the Office
of School and Community
Services, which oversees district
volunteers, said that “the awards
banquet represents a significant
step in recognizing those parents
and businesses that are always
there when we need them.”
Fran Ruben, president of the
CHISD board of trustees,
reminded guests, “it takes a vil-
lage to raise a child,” and
applauded the volunteers for
their contributions. Cedar Hill
ISD has a growing number of
volunteers prompting planners
to expect an even greater event
next year.

Cedar Hill High School student Scott Reeves was
voted by his peers in his Theatre I class to receive the
Theatre Arts I award. “Scottie really reminds us that if
we work hard, we can accomplish anything,” said Erin
Elam, class member. “He works hard with his class-
mates to present great performances.” Some of the
highlights of his year include improvisational acting, a
radio show presentation and the “Fear Monologue.”
His theatre teacher, Angie Andrews, said ’‘Scottie has
added inspiration and wonderful energy to our class
since the first day of school.” Above, Dr. Alfred Ray,
high school principal, presented Reeves with his
award during class.
