Social Evening with the Masons

Miss Myrtle Mays, of Cle-
burne. was a guest this week of
Miss Maggie Guinn.
J. A. Adair, of Grand Prairie,
is visiting in the home of his
mother north of town.
A number of our citizens will
go to Dallas to meet our senators
who will visit that citv in a bodv
Saturday and Sunday.
A little daughter came to the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Will Ed-
wards on the 22nd. We suggest
the name of [Georgine.
Miss Jennie Henry joined a
crowd from Waxahachie to see
“The Man of the Hour” in Dal-
las at Wednesday’s matinee.
Virgil Scott is painting and re-
pairing his residence near town.
Virgil is yielding his own paint
brash and executing his own
artistic ideas.
Mrs. T. J. Moores, of Hutch-
ins, who is spending the winter
with her daughters at Houston
school house, was a guest of Mrs.
J. V. Adair from Friday until
Sunday.
Miss Marie Este entertained a
few couple of young people at
the Head House Wednesday

evening. Games were enjoyed,
ice cream, candied cherries and
cake were served.
Mrs. M. A. Hamby left Thurs-
day morning for her home in
Smyrna, Ga., after spending sev-
eral months with her daughter,
Mrs. Thos. DuLaney, and other
relatives in Texas.
The Baraca class of the Bap-
tist Sunday School will hold their
regular quarterly social at. the
home of Miss Georgia Hayden
Saturday evening. The Phile-
tha class will be guests of the
boys,
The program for the National
Feeders and Breeders Show has
been mailed to this office. There
will be an eight-day exhibit, and
every day is full. Gov. Camp-
bell will speak opening day Mar ch
13th. Farmers day is March

T. B. Harris returned, last
week from quite a long visit at
Blooming,Grove. He savs thev
do things in ahurrv down in that
section. A school house burned
near where he was visiting and
before the ashes were cold, lum-
ber was on the site for a new
house and the embers were be-
ing raked away to begin digging
for the foundation.
Mrs. W. G. Howell entertained
the employes of the Lancaster
Dry Goods store, at her home
Wednesday evening. A jolly
good time was had in playing

The occasion being Mrs. Davis’

celebrating the event and many
wishes were expressed for her
continued health and happiness.
A representative of a supply
house was in Lancaster Wednes-
day figuring with our people for
the new pipes to be laid for the
waterworks. Lancaster would
be in the middle of a bad fix with-
out the waterworks. Laying
aside the great convenience of
having plenty of water the insur-
ance rates w'ould be so high, we
could not reach them even on
stilts.
C. C. Slaughter and George
Leachman, whose names have
been used in the public press as
aiders in knocking out the anti
race-track gambling bill have
come out with statements in
which they say thev are ardent
friends to the fair, but are op-
posed to gafnbling in any form
whatever, and there are still
others, besides the clergy, who
have the same ideas.
The usual services at the Bap-
tist church Sunday. The night
service will begin promptly at
7 : 30. The time for holding the
B. Y. P. LT. meeting has been
changed to (> : 30. Grant Coolidge
will lead the meeting, the subject
being “Life Lessons from Job,”
as given on the topic card for
Feb. 14th. A full attendance is
desired, and a cordial welcome
will Ve extended all visitors.

At the Christian Church Sun-
day School next Sunday, at 10:15,
the diplomas will be awarded the
graduates in the teacher training
class. The four pastors of the
city will deliver the diplomas,
and a cordial invitation is extend-
ed to everybody to be present.
A spring poet has sprung up
in Lancaster. The production is
sympathetic in rythm, timely in
subject, and ” brooks ” no criti-
cism. The effusion is anony-
mous, but the bandwriting on
the wall proves the fact that the
author is familiar with local
scenes and rumors.
There will be preaching by the
pastor at the Christian church
both morning and evening. A
Christian Endeavor society will
be organized at 7 p. m. All
younger members of the church
are especially requested to be
present. All regular services at
usual hours. Everybody invited.
Commissioners rrom Donley
county have been in Dallas coun-
ty this week to learn how to make
good roads. Truly Dallas coun-
ty has gained a wide reputation.
It takes money and hard work to
make and keep good roads just
as it does to do other things that
are worth while, but it brings
good results.
The choral class held their
meeting Tuesday night with
Miss lluibert, as no room Lad
been secured for a permanent
meeting place. There are tflirty-
one members in the class and
others have signified their inten-
tion of joining. The next meet-
ing, will be held Friday night of
next week in Curry’s piano
room. The music for the class
will be In re by that^ time, and
good hard work will begin. Mrs.

Sunday School Convention
Mondav was an ideal dav, and
Sunday school workers through-
out this precinct took advantage
of it, and the Christian church
was filled at an early hour, and
the program carried out in its
entirety.
The music was spirited and
added much to the day’s enthu-
siasm. Tables were laid in the
old postoffice building, and the
four schools of the" city furnish-
ed a bountiful luncheon. The
tables were laid for seventy-four
and three times were the tables
laid.
At two o’clock work was re-
sumed
Countv Secretary J. S. Tavlor,
Dallas ; G. W. -Coley, president
of precinct eight, and W. A. Lan-
ders, county president, and Mrs.
P. A. Sidell, superintendent of
the teacher training work of the
countv association, were among
those outside of the filth pre-
cinct who were on the program
and gave valued talks and papers.
By special request Miss Roxie
Worthington, of Newhope, coun-
ty superintendent of the Home
Department told of the work of
the department.
The next convention of this
precinct will be held with the
Methodist church at Hutchins
Friday, May 21st.
