Last Saturday was about the big-
gest cotton selling day we have had
this year. Some Acala brought a
pretty price, and while the price as
- a whole was not as high as earlier
ip the week, it was much ab >ve th*
‘*f price anticipated at planting season.
Wednesday the market closed with
Acala at 21 hi; short staple 20. The
market opened Thursday 50 points
off. Seeds were up: short staple
$30 per ton, Acala $37.50.

The City Council h. s placed ?n
aider for 300 feet of first class fire
hose. Every town needs all the fire
protection possible. A deep well,
a big reservoir of water with out
hose to carry it to the fire would
not save the burning building. Give
the fire fighters full equipment and
don’t be niggardly in private dona-
tions for this purpose. Your home
or pkee of business may be the
next fire scene.

The display windows of the stores
of Lancaster Jor the past several
weeks have indicated the season,
and seasonable goods in a beautiful
mid instructive manner. The hard-
ware stores announced the begin-
ning of the hunting season with
guns, ammunition and hunting togs
mid now they are reminding you of
“stove” time. The drug stores
have displayed fall tonics and toilet
necessities, and school supplies are
now being given attention. The
tfiry good stores have shown the
flew goods as they have arrived
ftom market, and the windows are
especially attractive now. You can
buy it in Lancaster. Make it your
