basketball for
the Westerners.
Mike went out
for basketball,
track and foot-

On the season, Mike comment-

never given up no matter how
the game was going. I think that
we have been giving all we have
but we are in a tough district,
and there are many teams that
have a great deal of ability.”.
MIKE PLANS to go to college
and participate in either basket-
ball or baseball. After college,
he would prefer to be in a busi-
ness that requires some form of
athletics, such as underwater
archeology.
On the Palo Duro game Mike
said, “I think we played very
hard against Palo Duro, but they
just had a good night They were

LAST FRIDAY, the Western-
ers were defeated by the Palo
Duro Dons by a score of 92-45.
Palo Duro almost played a per-
fest game, committing only 12
fouls during the entire game.
Ray Watson led the Dons with
24 points and Clarence Bolton
was next with 22 points for the
winners. Leading scorer for the
Westerners was Mike Taggart,
with a total of 17 points. Next
in line was Randy Pope with 15
points. Lubbock High led only
the first three minutes of the
game.
LUBBOCK COWHANDS will
continue their basketball action
tonight at Chapman Gym where
they will meet the Borger Bull-
pups, a team considered as one
of the better junior varsity
teams in the district.
While bringing a 2-16 season
record into the outing, the Cow-
hands will be facing the only *
team to defeat Monterey in dis-
trict play. Earlier, Borger de-
feated the Lubbock High junior
varsity by a score of 59-50 in a
game that Coach Bill Hughett
felt was one of their better play-
ed games of the season.
COWHANDS, WHO have man-
aged about 50 points per game,
will be starting with the line-up
of Greg Badgett, John Wilson,
William Stewart, Bill Chambliss
or Tony DeLeon or Sandy Utley
or Bill Hilburn. Bill Chambliss
will bring the top-scoring aver-
age into the game although Will-
iam Stewart is the top scorer,
but according to Coach Hughett,
the scoring has continued to be
very balanced.
Against Palo Duro last Friday
the Cowhands trailed most of
the game until the third quarter,
when they fought back to tie
the game, but fell 51-46.
