roommates for keeping their rooms clean, bathrooms
tidy and sanitary, plus working together in regular
household chores. Kitchen, or "KP" duty is rotated
by dorm as each boy takes his turn in helping in the
dining hall. Outside chores include mowing, pulling
weeds, some gardening; and those who are in-
terested have an opportunity to learn some of the
down to earth facts about ranch life such as fence
building and marking calves and lambs. Worship
services are conducted each Sunday in the Ranch's
All-Faiths Chapel, with Sunday School lessons
taught by local college and church volunteers. The
boys have their own rodeo each July at the Ranch) I

arena where they can compete according to age
groups in calf riding, goat milking, calf mugging,
boot scrambles, sack races, and other fun events.
During the annual San Angelo Rodeo, many of West
Texas Boys Ranch's boys participate in the calf
scramble during one or two performances. All funds
to maintain and operate the Ranch are received from
the public and many dollars are raised through special
events such as the OS Ranch Steer Roping and Art
Exhibit which was started as a benefit for West Texas
Boys Ranch in October, 1971. In the ten years since
the beginning of the OS Ranch Roping and Art Ex-
hibit, almost $300,000.00 have been raised for thecompliments of Mr. & Mrs. J. Martin Basinger, -Slaton, Texas
