• Orange's two biggest taxi-1
cab operator* were merged to-
day. Tom Butts, owner of the
Yellow Cab company, an-
nounced the purchase from
Bass Brothers of the Star Taxi
company.
Headquarters for the combined
operrtion will continue to be at
the Yellow Cab company stand,
805 Front St, But Us said. The Star
Cab offices at 106 Fifth St, will
be cloned. Telephone numbers of
both operations will be retained.
These arc 4877 and 5668.
Under the new setup Butts will
own 38 of the city's 37 operating
permits for 'taxi cobs for white
oersons. However, he said today
he plans to have only 16 cabs al
present but will add more as
needed to "maintain adequate
service."
* Tne other four permits are
issued to Diamond Cab company.
Ten permits have been issued
by the city for Negro taxis. One
of these is owned by Halsey Cab
service, six by Safety Cab com-
pany and three by Standard Cab

TYLER. Tex, Aug. 5— (API-
One man was killed in an explos-
ion and fire at a small hotel here
early today.
The victim had not been defin-
itely identified two hours after the
blast. It occurred about 5 a. m.
, The explosion, believed to have
been caused by gas. occurred in
the Victory hotel, a two-story
structure on Spring street in tttc
business section.
* None of the other guests was
critically hurt. Two suffered minor
burns.
