Among the paN*ngers who went went
or«r the Southern Pacific yetterdajr
afternoon wai H L Coomb*, a young
business man of Springfield, Illinois,
who is hunting for his pretty young
wife, who ran away with another man
‘See that man?" asked a Mexican
Central railroad man of a Times re
porter yesterday, pointing out to the re-
porter a stranger who had inquired for
the Western Union office. Well/' con-
tinued the railroad man, “follow him
up and you will get an item.'
The reporter harried t<> overtake the
stranger and esc *rted him to tin* tele
graph office Waiting until the strauger
vanse out of the office the reporter in-
troduced himself and learned that the
stranger was H. L. Coomb* a young
contractor of Springfield, illiueia He
appeared glad to meet a reporter and
said
May be you can give me some in-
formation about a couple that visited El
Paso last January and stopjved at the
Vendoine hotel. I think they register-
ed as Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sims. The
man was of medium heighth and dean
shaven and alwajs carried a kodak
The woman was five feet five in heighth.
was a pretty blonde and verv stylish
U i* p issible the man wore a short
brown moustache. 1 know that the
woman stopped at the Vendoine a few
{ days for she wrote me a letter from that
hoM."
The reporter remembered t > have seen
the couple at the poptoftice several times
and also saw the woman at the Ven
dome. Mr. Coombs wots finally induc-
ed to tell why he was inquiring for the
couple.
THEY MET IN KL PASO
“The woman/'said Mr. Coomb*, ‘ is
my wife. She was sick last winter and
persuaded me to let her accompany a
lady friend. Mrs. Al. Thompson- a
widow lady who had been hviug at
Springfield a short time t -California.
She left homo on the 3rd day of Jauu
ary last, in company with Mrs. Thomp-
son, and on the 15th of January I re
oeived a letter from her written on the
Vendorue stationery, and she said she
found El Paso just the place to recuper-
ate her health, ami went on at great
length to describe the climate. She said
die and Mrs. Thompson would speud
two or three weeks here
At the expiration of three weeks I
heard from her at Los Angeles and
wired her to come home in the mean-
time a drummer friend of mine l met
in Chicago told me he met my wife in
El Paso in company with Frauk Kims, a
young race course follower of Chicago,
who always manages to have plenty of
money. J asked my friend if Mrs
Thompson was also in El Paso, and h-
'•aid >he was at Phoenix playing a high
baud with a hotel clerk. That was when
J wired uiy wife to come home.

edged to have met Si him in Kl Paso and
said he had been very kind to her
Well, to make a long story short I dis-
covered last Septi»int**r th.it, my wife
was corresponding with Sim**, and the
5th of last month 1 went to Chicago to
hunt him up 1 spent three days there
and was unable to find him and return
ed home to dsoever my wife gone
* From my neighbors 1 learned that
Sims and my wife had left mv bouse in
a carriage and with tranks the day
after i left for Chicago 1 sjieiit t»*n
data t»d«gmphiag and then started in
pursuit of them 1 traced them to this
city and then to Mexico City But th**y
left Mexico ten days ago and ordered
mail for Sims sent to L<* Angeles and 1
am going there on the next train/
Mr. Coombs said this with the air of
a man who intended to do something
when he found Sims. CooiiiIh wan mi
elegantly dressed young man of about
30 years of age and is a man of educa
tiou When the reporter asked what he
in ten ted to do if he found Sims. Mr
Coombs sajd
T will decide &at when 1 meet him
Sims is a d- n scoundrel, My wife is
only 20 years old she was a pure, in
nocent little girl until she nn t that fe!
low We were married two years ago
ami Lave no children She ban been a
foolish little girl aid 1 am going to take
her back to her pirente As fur Sims
we shall see. Well, good bye, mid what
ever may happen remember that I hare
been deeply wronged.
With his grip in his hand Mr Coomb*
burned up the street and entered t-hb
postoflice If he finds Sims in Los
Angeles there will le a tragedy
oountry, purchasing supplies and bar
ing assays made.
Yesterday at noon a railroad man
