JOCKEY HILL MAKES
NEW SEASON’S RECORD
LITTLE KNIGHT OF THE BOOT
PILOTS FOLK OUT OF FIVE
WINNERS.
TIMES’ RACE CHART
Compiled by Frank fit. D. Skinner. 61 to 66 First St. San FYanclaeo. Cal.
W. If. Shelley, Presiding Judge. Mam Cassidy, Starter.
An ideal day found the track lib-
erally patronized by the ladies yester-
day, and one of the biggest crowds
for the past month sow a good card
run.
Little Jockey Hill, who is a product
of this sea -on at the over river track,
leaped into the lime light by hangtng
up a new record this year at the
course. Hill has been winning with
regularity and from an obscure lit-
tle chap with an occasional mount,
has moved up to one of the most
nought after boys of the meeting. ^ <*#-
terday he earned the plaudits of the
big crowd by piloting four winners to
_ victory out of five mounts.
In th-J baby event Moiler ran back
to his last race and won handily front
his field, never leaving the result in
dc ubt from the barrier. While Vest-
ed Rights showed in improved form,
beating Palatable for the place.
Modern Priscilla, under snug ride,
an eighth out and won going away,
took command of the racing brigade
with Penang second. McAlan, the
favorite, failed to Justify the confi-
dence of the talent.
Robert ran a much improved race
in the third event, coming from be-
hind and outgaming the leaders a
hundred yards from the wire. James
Blackstoek, at long odds, raced into
a nice early lead and looked a winner
to within sight of home, when he tir-
ed badly. The finish of the race was
«» pretty a contest as has been run on
the local track this season, and the
leaders bunched us one horse fougnt
it out from the paddock to the wire.
J .B. Hobirmon out paced to the
turn closed like a bullet and ran over
the leaders in the final racing, win-
ning handily, and incidentally estab-
lishing the fact that right now he is
a mighty good selling plater. His
win yesterday is the sixth in a row for
him. while he has not been out of the
money in ten starts, finishing twin?
second and twice third. Eye White
did not get the best ride possible,
broke badly to begin with, but saved
a lot of ground at the turn and look* cl
as if he would win. until Robinson
catight hl*n arid ran his eye out in the
final hundred yards.
Lady Tendi raced into a long lead,
looked as if she would roll at the
turn, but found Light Knight elosing
like a cyclone atid said “take It. *
after passing the paddock. Light
Knight Thursday finished with the
also runs, and his race yesterday was
much in the nature of an improve-
ment.
Mamae was the public choice in the
final on the card and looked like a
spread, but failed to run back to els
last race. Juan almost left at the
p<ffd. moved up rapidly after ho g»t.
ori his stride and took it away from
Judge Walton at the wire. The lat-
ter led to within sight of the horn:*,
but could not stand off the determin-
ed challenge of the oncoming win-
ner,
The week end curd offered today
looks the. best of the past seven days
and should draw well. The opening
race will see a lot who like the mile
route hooked up, and there are many
who think George Odom's Traveler
the horse to heat, if ho starts he*wlll
find Zurab and Lonia and Hearts Re-
lief right there when the real thing
begin.4.
Clint Tin ker will get the call from
the talent In the second, hut Nimbus
at the form he showed in the early
part of the meeting, is going to be
the horse to beat, while there are
those who think Fort Johnson, Lav-
tnlnster and several others, if they go,
will be. contenders.
Lady Stalwart, If she runs back to
her last race, Is going to take a lot of
beating, but Roberta. Hnlnest and
Fanuiel Hall all figure to bo contend-
er.'
The hundieap brings out little Jim
Basey for the first time in two months
and lie will he asked to beat a lot
of the first division sprinters, Includ-
ing Pride of Llsmore, Kootenay, This-
tle Belle and Tourist. Pride of Lis-
mnre will no doubt go to the post a
favorite and should, if ho Is good,
have no trouble to beat the field, des-
pite the fact that he Is asked to carry
the top poundage.
The two remaining events are both
well filled with entries that portend
good contests.
Juarez, Mexico, Friday. March 15, 1*12. Ninety-third day.
