Round ft—Both of Puller's eyes wore
swollen when he came up In the fifth Mc-
Carty drove a hard right to the ribs and
they exchanged blow'* at long distance
in the center of the ring. McCarty sent
tight to the chin and swung n hard right
uppercut. Palier drove a vicious right
to McCarty's head. falser'* bend rock-
ed from rights titid lette. Palser missed.

He again rocked Pnlxer's head with a
short left swing and caused Palier to mis*

xer's left ear bled. Both were laughing as

Round 8—McCarty flailed Paiier's head
With right and lefts. Neither attempted
to do any fighting in the clinch that fol-
lowed. McCarty sent hard right to wind
and left to face. Palxer rocked McCarty's
bead with two straight lefts. McCarty
put vicious right to Palxer'a jaw and |
followed with a hard left to the chin.
Both exchanged blows to the body. Mc-
Carty’s round by a Shade-
Round 9— Palxer rushed Into a clinch
and McCarty sent right to the body and
left to the jaw. McCarty again reached
Palxer'a Jaw and stomach with rights and
lefts. Palxer staggered McCarty with left
to face and clinched. McCarty drove right
to the stomach aud both rested In a
clinch. Palxer put a right to tlio stom-
ach. McCarty’s smile showed that fal-
ser'* blows did little damage. Palier
drove a terrific left to the wind and Mc-
Carty followed with a virions right swing
that sent Palicr’s head back. Palier had-
bis eyes most of the time on his corner,
where his manager, Tom O’Rourke,
coached him through a megaphone. The
round was even.
Round 10—Palier came up aggressively
and put three lefts to McCarty’s Jaw.
Both appeared to be slowing up. Three
straight lefts followed by a hard right
brought the blood from Paiier's eye. Mc-
Carty. slipped to the mat, but was up in
an instant and eluded a clumsy uppercut
with which Palxer tried to reach him
while he was coming up. A straight left
opened a slight cut under McCarty's right
eye. Round even.
Round 11—McCarty drove a hard right
to the heart and put a left to the Jaw.
They clinched. As they 'broke away Mc-
Carty placed bis right to the, jaw. but
Palier only smiled! McCarty drove a ter-
rific left to Paiier’s right eye. and Pal-
er was almost blind. He reached for Mc-
Carty desperately, only to be met by a
right to the stomach and another left
swing to the injured eye. McCarty again
rocked Paiier's head with a left uppercut
to the chin and Palier was daacd as the
gong rang. The crowd rose to Its feet,
yelling for McCarty. McCarty's round.
Round 12—MeCarty staggered Palier
with a volley of rights and lefts to the
jaw, followed by a terrific right io the
stomach. Palier swung wildly and Mc-
Carty drove right and left to head and
stomach. McCarty sent a crashing left to
Paiier's month and Palier reeled stupidly
about, vainly trying to reach McCarty.
McCarty again reached Paiier's face with

the latter’s seconds threw a towel
into the ring, thus disqualifying their

side to side at will. A terrific right swing
cut Taller's left ear. McCarty sent two
terrific swings to the former’s head and
body with no comeback. McCarty drove
two hard rights to Paiier's face, the
crash of which was heard at the farthest
corner of the arena. As the hell rang
McCarty smqthered Pnlxer with n fusitnde
of terrific swings to (be head and body
and Palxer reeled to bis corner.
Round 14—Palier came up viciously and
after reachiug McCarty with right straight
arm blows, McCarty again (daggered him
with a series of straight lefts to the face
and stomach, falser was standing up
under terrific punishment and appeared
at this tage that only the landing of a
chance knockout blow would save hint.
McCarty smiled it* lie took a hard left lo
the face, again working his right and left
to Paiier's face with precision, agalusl
which the farmer apparently had no de-
fense. A crushing right to Pallet's stom-
ach caused Palxer to stagger. All Mc-
Carty's round.
Round 13—Pnlxer Jumped Into a clinch
and neither damaged the other. Palxer
put a left to the Jn v and a right to the
stomach. McCarty staggered Palaer with
a left and a right to the Jaw. A hard-
left to the Jnw staggered Palier and ns
the latter rushed the cowboy again shot

ly with terrific right swlugs. Pnlxer was
staggering about the ring. If appeared
that the end was near for Palxer. The
Iowan milled here and poked his left to
McCarty’s face and the cowboy again sent
back with well placed Mows to the stom-
ach. Palxer was banging on as the bell
rang. Palxer was all but out as the round \
ended.
Round 17 Palxer was groggj as lie
came up for the seventeenth round, lint !
there was no doubt of bis courage. Ills
ability lo assimilate punishment appear- I
ed to be bis sole asset. McCarty tint two
terrific lights to the Jaw. followed with
straight lefts to the injured eye. A short
uppercut to the Jaw almost finished Pal-
xer and the Iowan bung on with bis eyes
half closed. Palxer lilt McCarty low and
the referee cautioned the big fellow. A
crashing right hook to the Jaw followed
by a left sw ing to'the other side of bis j
head made Palxer hang on again Mc-
Carty flirted with Palxer’a manager as
the Iowan clung t<» him apparently hope,
lessly defeated. Palxer could hardly find
bis corner at the bell.
Round 18— Pancer stumbled into a ter-
rific left book and bung on to McCarty’*
shoulders. ^leCsrt.v sent a bard left to
the, Jaw and played a terrific tattoo ou
Pnlxer’s body. The blood flowed from
Palxer’is eyes and mouth as McCarty shot
two terrific straight lefts to his head. As
Palxer staggered about blindly Referee

right, glove.

dcciKlon over Tommy Ryan, feather-
weight of San Francisco.
