West is one of the cleanest and
best kept towns in the country,
is an expression that is often
heard. Street and civic improve-
ment* aie flu most noticeable
and visitor* are delighted to see
this thrift and activity that pre-
vails, and it is an inspiration to
the progressive citixen wherever
he is from, and it does them
good to come here and see with
what enthusiasm the people of
the town enter into the improve-
ment of the town. One of our
good friends remarked a few
days ago that we cannot proper
ly appreciate the splendid condi-
tion that exists here until we get
away from home for a few days
and visit some other town.
We believe that few towna in
this part of the country can pre-
sent such sn attractive appear-
ance aa West at this time. The
Civio League and the city com-
missioners are largely reaiionai
ble for this most pleasing condi-
tion of afiairs. Their persistent
efforts for a mors sanitary and
attractive city is what placed the
desire of the people so firmly for
a realty beautiful city.
Even through the dull months
there has been activity and im
provements. There is always
something doing in West and the
people are marching to the mu-
sic of the Civic League, commis-
sioners and progressive citizens
of the town _ _

The News is proud of the or
g&nlzatiou. We are beginning to
realise that it Is imperative that
we form organisations and put
forth our very best efforts to se-
cure our prorata of the trade.
And now that we have attached
ourueives to the Y. M. B. L. that
has for its purpose the develop-
ment of West and the promotion
of elery business institution, we
should naturally expect results.
We need to put forth every extra
effort to get trade from over our
trade territory. Individual con
gems have ceased to compete as
they once did. and the lines of
competition now lie between
sections al country. Every ffrtu
must solicit trade, else they will
not get their full share. Every
town moat survive or perish, the
course taken by the business
»en being, largely, If not wtwUy,
responsible for the consequen-
ces. Tlte development of trans-
portation facilities bring the cit-
ies and towns of the country in
closer touch with alt parts of the
country, and the way tn which
the larger places are going after
business through trade excar
sions and similar schemes, calls
for a move on the part of the
smaller places Tills is an age
In which things are being done.
Weal is a progressive city,
which is evidenced by the activity
in the city, and the indications
are that the wave of improve
meats and development in every
line is not yet at its beat. There
is an air of general prosperity in
the town and the people are con
fident that there is no other town
that will outstrip West Let’s
boost the Y. M. li L The pur
poses of the organisation are
worthy of the consideration of
every cltlsen of the town and the
success of tile organisation de-
pends solely upon the interest

Tucked away in a dark corner,

covered by former Comptroller

has been classifying and filing

currency was an opinion of the

merely, “Alexander—Attorney
