Food Thief* Lurks
In Bean Family
LINCOLN, NEB.-A new kind at
"food thief’ ha* been found lurking
In soybeans, lima beans, black eye
peas, garden beans and peanuts.
This thief I* a natural part of the
raw bean. It can prevent the Uvlng
body from properly using proteins,
Ih* foodstuffs essential for health.
It does this by Interfering with a
chemical, the enzyme trypsin,
which splits up proteins so that the
body can uae them.
Fortunately, thla food thief le
killed by cooking or heating. But
Its discovery. In so many different
common foods, poses a new prob-
lem for nutritionists.
| It points to potslbls drawbacks If
human* eat these things raw or If
jthey are fed In uncooked form to
animals.

he continued.
"I am happy to report that
crime has been drastically rc- j
idticed during the past two years, j
. and It is a source or pride to my i
deputies and to myself that we
have had a share In this achieve-
ment." he stated
"However I wont to say here
and now that a great measure
of the success In decreasing
crime In McLennan county these
past two years Is due lo the
splendid rooperation we have
had from federal, stale, city and
precinct officers. To each of
them I am humbly grateful and
I am sure our citizens are equal
ly as appreciative of their fine
service," Alexander continued
Always popular with young
people, Mr. Alexander takes a
lead in every movement toward
making better citizens of tomor-
row of our youngsters nf today.
Juvenile delinquency Is another
problem In our everyday life
that commands Mr. Alexander's
special consideration.
In his selection of deputies Mr.
Alexander has chosen well quali-
fied, fair-minded, courageous
men. "I have been fortunate In
huvlng good men assist and they
are at all times loyal to their
duties," he declared.
"My first two years as your
Sheriff have given me the ini-
tial experience In that office
that will qualify me to serve you
even better during my second
term," Mr. Alexander declared
"I appreciate my friends and
earnestly seek your endorsement
of my first term by eleetlng me
to the customary second term as
your Sheriff. I pledge you all a
clean, honest, courageous ad-
ministration, with special privi-
lege to none and justice to all."

More Telephone Service
For WEST .71

The Telephone
System
here is
CROWING"
‘Sty
Skilled workmen recently have added SO
new lines to the switchboard at the telephone
office here. The new lines have been added so
that new telephones can be connected to the
switchboard just as soon ns more poles, wire,
and cables can be extended to homes and busi-
nesses here. In this way, they will help us to
furnish telephones to many people who are now
waiting for service.
We’ve installed a lot of telephones here since
the end of the war—more than 200. West now
has 467 in service, more than double the number
in 1941. But more people here have wanted
telephones than ever before, New orders for
service have poured in faster than we can con-
nect them. As a result, although we have added
200 telephones here since V-J Day, many people
now ore on the waiting list.
That’s why we’re hard at work putting in
more equipment here... as much as we can get,
as speedily as possible. Each new piece of equip-
ment helps to make possible more telephones.
There’ll be no let-up until everyone in
who wants a telephone has one.
