Refugio. — Sheila Skeen was en-
tertained with a dance given at
the country club by her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Skeen, Sat-
urday evening when about 65
ycung people attended.
An Oriental theme was used in
decorations, with bamboo wind
cliimes hung over the entrance
snA Japanese lanterns ornament-
ing the ballroom ceiling. Fans and
travel folders appeared on red and
yellow wall panels.
A parasol tree appeared on the
^registering table and a flower-
filled bird cage was used in the
fryer. Yellow daisies were combin-
ed with red charm sticks and
Geisha dolls to form the center-
piece for the serving table. Punch
end Chinese fortune cookies were
^served.
Out-of-town guests were Marge
Aim Shires, David Prather and
Harry Taplin of Freer, Carolyn
smd Chuck Foote of Sinton. Adults
attending were Mr. and Mrs. Har-
vey Cullman, Mrs. E. G. Fisher,

Sigma Phi Sorority selected com-
mittee chairwomen and members
for the coming year and toured
the new hospital wing during a
meeting held Thursday in the home
of Judy Wasson.
Program chairman was Gladys
Oaybrook, and the tour was con-
ducted by Bill Knaak, hospital en-
gineer.
Ann Fenters, president, presid-
ed for business when the sorority
agreed to enter a float in the
county fair. Bobbie Waggoner won
the white elephant gift.

During the social hour Iva Boyd
and Bobbie Waggoner, fall
pledges, assisted the hostess in
serving. Cake, cookies, sandwiches

I table centered with an arrange-
ment of dahlias and sweet peas.
! The last meeting of the current
year will be held May 24 when
spring pledges will be hostesses.
This meeting will be informal, and
a white elephant sale will be held.
Electrical Appliance
Wodshops Are Held
Refugio. — Two Electrical Ap-
pliance Workshops, which were
planned by the County Home Im-
provement Commitee, were held
in Refugio and Woodsboro last
week May 10 - 11. Mrs. Jean
Keele, CPL Home Economist, was
in charge of the workshops, the
purpose of which was to teach
more efficient use of electrical ap-
pliances.
In the morning she demonstrat-
ed the use and care of small ap-
pliances; and in the afternoon,
she demonstrated the efficient use
•if washers and dryers and gave
helps on washing aides.
'Washers and dryers were dis-
played by the following dealers:
Gilliams, Nelson’s Electric Co. and
Teague's Furniture all of Refugio.
A display of wash and wear fab-
rics was furnished by the follow-
ing businesses of Refugio and
Woodsboro: Henderson's, The Eco-
nomy, Schubert's Variety Store,
Jordan's and Zarsky’s.
The workshop will be held in
Bayside on Wednesday, May 16 at
the Scout Hut.

REFUGIO HIGH SCHOOL BAND performs in the
annual spring concert Saturday night in the school audi-
torium. A number of senior students played with the
group for the last time.

Refugio. — Clark Walker, high
school senior son of Mr. and Mrs.
John R. Walker, received the John
Phillip Sousa Award at the annual
spring concert given in the school
auditorium Friday night. Principal
H. E. Harris made the presenta-
tion.
Walker was chosen by vote oi
the band members on the basis
of five standards, which are char-
acter, attitude, participation, musi-
cianship and best - all - around
band member. Previous winners
were Dennis Crane, Susan Rainey
and Jo Ann Archer.
Under the direction of J. C. Mit-
chell, the sixth grade band and
junior high school band each per-
formed three selections.
The high school band, directed
by A1 English, played six tunes
and closed the concert with the
popular Dixie.
In appreciation for their efforts,
leadership, assistance, and instruc-
tion during the past school year,
the directors were presented with
gifts by their respective groups.
English received a wrist watch.
Mitchell received a camp stove
and stereo record.

New Officers; Re-Organize
Circles at Luncheon Meet
Refugio. — Mrs. R. F. Ander-
son was installed president of the
Women’s Society of Christian Ser-
vice, Methodist Church, following
a luncheon hold in the church fel-
lowship hall Tuesday. Mrs. E. C.
Young was installing officer.
Honor guests were members of
the Naomi Circle, who were credit-
ed with best meeting attendance
during the year. Hostesses were
women of Ruth and Mary Martha
Circles.
Other officers installed were

Mrs. Leo Butler, recording secre-
tary; Mrs. John Thedford, treasur-
er; Mrs. N. E. Wasson, secretary

Pep Squad Visits
Victoria Park
Refugio. — High School pep
squad members spent Saturday in
Victoria where they visited Vic-
toria Municipal Park and the
Friendship Club.
The two bus-loads of students
were accompanied by Mrs. Ken-
neth Arterburn, Mrs. E. D. Cow-
ard, Mrs. J. C. Stover, Mrs. Jean
Schnitz, and Mrs. Douglas Whit-
low.
Picnic lunches- were eaten in the
park and the youngsters danced
to records at the Friendship Club.

Hold Sunday Tea

Tea was held by Rainbow Girls
at the home of Mrs. John O’Neal
Sunday between the hours of 2
and 4 p.m. with members of the
advisory board as hostesses.

a table centered with a bouquet
