Presented
Awards
Refugio.—The regular month-
ly meeting of Cub Scout Pack
69 was held Thursday, January
28, at tae Junior High School
Auditorium.
The meeting was opened by
Den 4 which escorted the flag
of the United States to the
stage and led the Pack in the
Pledge of Allegiance to the
-Flag.
The Cubmaster made a few
comments on Pack finance and
announced that the annual Blue
and Gold banquet would be held
on February 25 and that plans
would be announced in the im-
mediate future.
Den 8 presented an amusing
skit titled “The Little Train That
Wouldn’t Whistle”, after which
Strauch Shaw, Assistant District
Scout Commissioner awarded to
Pack 69 the Honor Unit Roundup
Award for successfully accomp-
lishing its membership round-
up quota for 1964.
Anniversary year pins were
presented to each of the Den
Mothers as follows: One-year
pins to Mrs. O’Rear, Mrs. Craw-
ford, Mrs. Tyler and Mrs: Kirk-
land while two-year pins were
presented to Mrs. Pearson and
Mrs. Daniels.
Year pins were presented to
the following Cub Scouts: One-
year pins to Frank Freeman,
Curtis Isaiah, Clarence S. Lew-
is; two-year pins to Jimmy
Jackson, Ray Piwetz and Steve
Stricklin; three-year pins to
Steve Pearson and Gary Henry.
J. Ross Craft and Thad Brun-
drett and their parents were
welcomed into the pack, and
Ross and Thad were awarded
their Bobcat pins.
Arrow points were awarded
to the following Cub Scouts;
Mack Pinson, John Powell,
Richard Lowe, Miles Foster,
Bruce Harr, Frank Rice, Victor
Goode, Lester Elliott, Jr., Robert
Williams, Chuck Daniels, and

AIRMAN LEO POWER
. . . completes basic
San Antonio. — Airman Leo
Power, son of Louis Power of
212 Bayou, Refugio, has com-
pleted Air Force basic military
training at Lackland AFB.
Airman Power is being as-
signed to a Strategic Air Com-
mand (SAC) unit at Francis E.
Warren AFB, Wyoming, for
training and duty as an air po-
liceman. His unit supports the
SAC mission of keeping the na-
tion’s intercontinental missiles
and jet bombers on constant
alert.
The airman, a graduate of
Refugio High School, attended
Wharton County Junior College.

Dallas.—Series E and H Sav-
ings Bbnd sales during 1964
totaled $147,317,356 which rep-
resents 100.14% of the 1964 sales
goal, according to a report re-
ceived from Ed Gossett, Gen-
eral Counsel for the Southwest-
ern Bell Telephone Company and
State Bond Chairman.
In making the announcement
Gossett said: “I am pleased to
announce that Texas has achiev-
ed its Savings Bond sales goal
for 1964, a feat which has not
been accomplished since the
war years. Earlier we had an-
nounced a state goal of $150 mil-

A Ladies Auxiliary to the lo-
cal chapter of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars has been organiz-
ed.
Miss Patricia Williams, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer T.
Williams, has been selected for
the collegiate “Who’s Who” from
the freshman class of the school
of nursing at Scott & White,
Howard I Temple.
P. Green as Judge of the 24th
District is particularly gratify-
ing to the people of Refugio
County, as he is the first Re-
fugio citizen in 95 years to oc-
cupy the exalted station of dis-
trict judge. The last Refugian
to hold the office was Judge
Milfred P. Norton, who was ap-
pointed in 1845.
A new oil field for Refugio
County is forecast this week.
It is in the northeastern part
of the county, west of Tivoli, and
two and one-half miles south of
the McFadden field. The poten-
tial discovery is located on the
B. J. Fox tract in the Fagan
survey.
Mrs. J. H. Coward, Jr. and
son, Jimmy, returned the latter
part of the week from Houston,
where they had been guests of
Mrs. Coward’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. B. Williams.

Mrs. F. A. Jurica of Woods-
boro, has taken over the opera-
tion of the Texaco Service Sta-
tion located on the southwest
side of the town square in
Woodsboro.

was reviewed in the January is-

Band in an assemblage of 22

RHS Librarians
Name Delegates
To State Meet
Refugio. — The Ferret Club
met Friday, January 29, in the
High School Library. Judy Wat-
ers, president, presided. Plans
were formulated to attend the
State Teen Age Librarians As-
sociation Convention to be held
February 18, 19 and 20, in El
Paso. Those chosen as delegates
were officers of the club, Judy
Waters, president; Toniny Wal-
lace, recording secretary and
Linda Williams, treasurer.
Mrs. Carroll, Ferret Club spon-
sor, discussed the plans of the
trip and the importance of this
convention. She also gave a talk
on Librarianship. She pointed
out the different fields of serv-
ice offered to librarians, salar-
ies and the constant demands
for librarians.
Judy Waters gave a short talk
on Ways of Improving Our Li-
brary Service.
Members were urged to sug-
gest people whom they thought
would qualify to serve as assist-
ants, replacing those who are
graduating this year.-

notified that she has been award-
ed a scholarship by the Zonta
Club of Austin in the amount
of one hundred dollars per se-
mester and it may be used for
personal expenses to further her
education as she chooses.

Refugio.—A Hat Party will be
held Tuesday, February 9, 1965
in the Methodist Educational
Building at 310 Power Street
beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting
until 7 p.m. The party and sale
is being sponsored by the Mary-
Martha Circle of the First Meth-
odist Church.
Refreshments of pie, cake and
coffee will be for sale.

At Stewardship
Refugio—A district Steward-
ship Seminar and banquet will
be held Monday night, Febru-
ary 8, in the First Methodist
-Church. The lay leaders of the
Corpus Christi district are spon-
soring a series of four such af-
fairs in the district.
Dr. Eugene Judd, one of the
most outstanding and inspiring
lay speakers in the Methodist
Church has been secured for
the meeting.
Nine churches are sending
laymen to participate in the
evening activities and lead dis-
cussion groups.
