Miss Margaret Allen of Monte-
bello, California was the house
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Teddy
Mathews the week of Nov. 1st.
Miss Allen taught school in Port
Aransas for four years during
the early 1930’s. While visiting
the Island, Miss Allen was able
to catch up on the latest with
former students, Woody Ousley
for one, and visit with some of
her friends including Dora
Moore and Nona Sherrill.
A belated welcome to William
Louis Martin, Jr., born Oct. 18th
weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 21”
long.
Congratulations due to Andy
and Shelagh Muir on the birth
of their first child, a lovely girl,
Nicola. She arrived a wee bit
early weighing 3 lbs. 12 oz. and
was 15VV’ long. She is presently
residing in the premature nur-
sery of Driscoll Hospital but is
gaining weight fast and we hope
to see her on the beach soon.
A Scorpio child born Oct. 29th.
Melvin M. Littleton and wife
Delana left early the morning of
November 4th to spend two
weeks in Trinidad with cousins
Don and P. A. Goodwin.
Mayor Roy Turnbull under-
went emergency surgery Mon-
day Nov. 1st for appendicitis.
He is doing well in his recovery.
Leonard and Helen Brown
have returned from a two week
vacation to New Orleans and
thereabouts. Leonard attended a
telephone convention for three
days. They were entertained by
A1 Hirt, Pete Fountain, a shrimp
boil—hoe-down, and a bus tour
of the city. After a “grand and
glorious” time in the city, they
drove leisurely through more of
Louisiana, Mississippi and ended
up in Houston for a fewT days
visit with their children.
Cynthia Holt is in Spohn Hos-
pital for observation.
Bill and Margaret Allen have
gone to Florida to be wdth their
daughter w'ho is expecting any
minute.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Betton
of Denver, Colo, are visiting Lil-
lian Graham and getting in some
fine fishing. They anticipate a
quick trip to Mexico.
Leila Shockley, sister of Lil-
lian Graham, flew down from
Denver to be with her sister up-
on her arrival home from the
hospital. She plans to stay
through Thanksgiving.
Ray and Polly Reeder have
returned from a vacation trip to
Houston.
A baby shower wTas held at
the home of Josephine Brundrett
for Shelagh Muir Wednesday
November 9th. Those attending | er,
were: Cora Chisholm, Lee Bloet-
scher, Char Caston, Suzanna
Reeder, Lexa Frishman, Peggy
Kohler, Jo Roach, Molly Brun-
drett, Jackie Craven, Glenda
Brundrett, Mary Jo Brundrett,
Elaine Geradine and Tommie
Hake. Shelagh was delighted
with the many gifts and listened
attentively to advice from the
mothers present even down to a
lesson in how to fold a diaper
from Glenda Brundrett.
Helene Mora hosted a lunch-
eon Wednesday Nov. 9th. Each
person brought a dish for all tc
enjoy. Present were: Beverly
Clanton and her mother, Mrs.
W. G. Garrison, Bebe Bralley,
Joyce Pulich, Mary Ann Davis,
Cathy Ousley, Ruth Thomas,
Lexa Frishman, and Marge Gas-
kins.
Mr. and Mrs. Arturo Maldon-
ado proudly announces the birth
of their first grandson, Andy,
born November 8th to daughter,
R. C. Andy weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz.
Henry Chessher, local bank-
earned some interest the
other night when he was in-
volved in an effort above and
beyond the call of duty.
Mrs. Louise Boyle underwent
surgery Mon. November 1st at
Spohn Hospital.
The Port Aransas Garden
Club heard a talk on Christmas
decorations by Mrs. Adele John-
son of Corpus Christi. She pre-
sented some unique items and
inspired many of the members
to save almost anything as some
day it will be able to feature in
an attractive decoration. There
were 12 members and 2 guests
present. The guests were Mrs.
Johnson’s sister and Linda
Zahn, grand-daughter of Gar-
den Club member Gladys Barr.
Helen Brown won the monthly
plant raffle, an Indian carna-
tion. Judges for the November
Yard of the Month were chosen
and also judges for the annual
Christmas decoration award. It
w’as decided to buy two citrus
trees and some house plants to
be given to the new state school
in Corpus Christi.
In keeping with past perform-
ances, the marriage of Everett
“Goatroper” Morgan and Linda
Toungate missed our deadline
They can’t do anything right,
but we’ll have a big splash on
it next issue for all you non-
believers.
Ron Bradley, the Coast
Guard’s wandering Port Aran-
sas ambassador has returned
after a few weeks of extensive
training in San Diego. He now
not only can prime a pump, but
but is well versed in air condi-
tioning.
PORT ARANSAS SCHOOL NEWS
1 and Light presented a very in-
TINA smith & scott CLAYTONu formative program. Mr. Bill
School is in full swing now
with a variety of activities that
are happening. Mr. Cole re-
ceived a collection of new- music
on November 5 to use in the
Pop Concert that is planned
for the near future. He stated
that because of the favorable
comments after the last con-
cert plans are being made for a
sauerkraut and weiner dinner
with German music played by
the band.
The girls had a “B” and “A”
basketball game here on No-
vember 1. Our girls were very
proud when the defeated Incar-
nate Word Academy. The “B”
game’s score was 7 to 3. Lola
Grundy was the high pointer
with 5 points. The “A” games’s
score was 30 to 8. In this game
Toni Bralley was high pointer
with 18 points.
Three days later the boys had
a “B” and “A” team basketball
game with Incarnate Word A-
cademy. The “B” team lost by
12 points with the score 33 to
45. The high pointer was Jay
Whitworth displayed a few ex-
periments with electricity and
explained the story of electrici-
ty-
We have gained five new stu-
dents. They are Abel Sanchez
in the first grade, Lita Sanchez
in the second grade, Tony San-
chez in the fourth grade, Anita
Sanchez in the fifth grade, and
Freddie Sanchez in the sixth
grade. These students moved to
Port Aransas from Phoenix, Ar-
izona.
We have lost one eighth grade
student. Ted Tolleson moved to
San Antonio.
