said, and the immigration
debate falls squarely within
those parameters.
“We want them to really
know the issues, and we start
with, ‘Do you know your local
representatives and laws? How
about state and federal laws?’”*1
Miller said. “We see this as an
opportunity to grow and learn
how to use our system of gov-
ernment.”
District officials met with
some of the parents of the stu-
dents involved in the suspen-
sions, and the discussion was
amicable, Browder said.
“We had a great meeting.
They left and said they felt like
they had been listened to,” she
said. “Parents left my office
very pleased. We’re just trying
to find ways to intelligently talk
about the immigration issue.”
School officials have drawn
up lesson plans studying all
sides of the immigration issue,
Browder said, adding that
sphools were encouraged to put
together debate teams, as well.
Project Graduation nefcds help, donations
Project Graduation is look-
ing for residents’ help as the
school year winds down.
The 2006 Senior Parents
Committee has been planning a
drug free/alcohol free celebra-
tion for the graduating Seniors
of Cedar Hill High School.
The party begins at mid-
night June 2 after graduation
and continues until 5 a.m..
Project Graduation is a night
filled with food, music and
activities. Panera Bread will be
sponsoring some of the food,
Williams chicken will provide
drinks and Busy Bee’s Bakery
will donate desserts.
The committee needs dona-
tions from the community to
help make this event a reality,
because it hasn’t yet reached its
financial goals.
Due to a re-allocation of
funds, nearly $5,000 that had
been provided to the project in
years past is not available.
