LODGE NO. 97, PLACED0
Dear Members and Friends:
Today is the second Monday of
the month whích is our regular
lodge meeting. The meeting was
postponed for Tuesday night, at
6:30 p.m., due to the funeral of our
uncle, Mr. E. W. Havel of San An-
gelo, who died in a nursing home
on May lOth, following a long 111-
hess.
Funeral Services were held on
May 12th, at 3 p.m., at the Buf-
fington Funeral Home, with SL
President Mek, Morris officiating.
The sermon was impressive.
Three weeks prior to my uncl@’s
death, we suddenly lost our dear
aunt, Bister Fraruces Malina. May
they both rest in peace.
The long awaited rain is over. It
finally arrived in Victoria and
brought much happiness to all of
us. There also was some smáli hail
but it didn’t do any damage except
to my flowers in the yard, but I
guess the flowers will survive.
We don’t need any more rain
here in town;however, the farmers
could use a lot more. Some of our
potatoes are ready to be harvested.
We £ave been canning beans and
eating beans, lettuce, squash, po-
tatoes and onions for quite a while.
Nothing is better than fresh vege-
tables. The tomato vineš are load-
ed and cucumbers are beginning
to appear on the vineš. Yum, yum!
Fraternally,
Mrs. Ed (Vlasta) Baros

SOFTBALL TEAM
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
On Thursday night, May 8, we
played Agee Oil and we lost by a
score of 7 to 3. Taking away our
one bad inning, the first, when we
allowed 4 runs, the game was very
close, considering our opposition.
Lionel Schulz allowed 7 hits, 2
walks and struck out 2 batters, but
received poor support afield in
that first inning when they should
not háve scored.
Leading hitters were Larry Bren-
nan with ’2 singles, Joe Nobles with
2 singles, Lionel Schulz with a
single, a walk and a sacrifice, Wil-
ey Beesley with a single, Harry Wil-
kerson with a single, Mark Wink-
ler with a sacrifice and Lawrence
Honza with a walk.
Monday night, May 12, we won
our fourth game in that league by
taking a 1-0 squeeker from the
Dingos. It was a well-played game,
only we forgot that we had to get
some hits to score runs. We only
had 2 hits in the game. Gil Vetters
held our opponents to only 1 hit,
gave up two walks and struck out
10 batters in another fine per-
formance on the mound and he
received fine support by our team.
This goes to prove that we don’t
háve to háve a bad inning in every
game, which seems to háve been
the čase in our previous encount-
ers this season.
The only hits we had were
singles by Wiley Beesley and Law-
rence Honza and Harry Wilkerson
had a sacrifice hit. It was just one
of those nights when everything
the team, hit was right at some-
body.
On Monday night, May 19*, we
played Midwest Spring and on
Monday night, May 26, we are
scheduled to play Mesquite, at 8:30
p.m. On Thursday night, May 15,
our opponent was National Traf-
fíc; and Thursday night, May 22,
we will play Ford, Beacon and Da-
vis, at 8:30 p.m. at the Pleasant
Grove field.
Gome out and root for the team
and see softball played at its best.
