The Fourth Animal Czech Te'ach-
ers’ and Students’ Conferenee was
held Saturday, Apríl 23 at SPJST
Lodge Praha No. 29, in Taylor.
After finishing work with the
Věstník that day, we attended and
arrivdd later than we had hoped
to, however, here are some of the
things we know of.
On the program Texas Repre-
sentative Brother Dan Kubiak of
Rockdale', who is also a sales rep-
resentative for the SPJST, pre-
sented an Official Memorandum
from Governor Dolph Briscoe pro-
claiming Apríl 23, 1977, as Czech.
Student Day in Texas to MC
Woody Smith and also made a brief
but sincdre and to-the-point speech
about the teaching of foreign lan-
guages in Texas and the ways and
means in which this can be ac-
complished. The program řollow-
ing was presented by the> various
Czech Clubs of our universities
here in Texas and was interesting
and ehjoyed by all. It was a very
nice and different type of inter-
lude away from our everyday dui-
ties, and very interesting to say the
least. This editor can only add —
Keep up the interest and good
work; you will neVer regret it!
After the program and some so~
cializing with the teachers and
students, we attended the recon-

been adjourned for the program
at 2 p.m. Many useful ideas were
discussed. Watch your Czech nev/s-
MOTHER’S DAY
MAY Utlu 1977
EVERYBODY LOTES
2VSOÍV5.
TO WONDERFUL MOTHERS
As one stray sunbeam at twilight
renews
The mighty glory of the living
sun;
As one soft word too long with-
held can fuse
Anew and stronger, two hearts
into one;
As all the minuté artistry within
A single flower recalls grand
naturel store —-
Or, passing the blind beggar, we
begin
To think on our complaints — our
gifts galore;
In countless trivial ways, as we
pereerve
In one swift glance the fullness
of the world,
Just so on Motheťs Day can we
retrieve
In full, past joys in memory
impearled,
The day so short — the joys all
time would fill!
And wiap in love, dear mother,
linger still.

Some time ago we mentioned
that we received a correspondence
from the National Prateraal Con-
gre'ss of America that their theme
for this year will be “Fraternalism
Is a Family Affair.” Soon after,
we received the1 same from District
III Director Cyrill (Sid) Pokladník.
It reads as follows:
A Family Life Committee' has
been established by the National
Fraternal Congress of America.
William J. Wenger, NFCA presi-
dent, said the1 committee was
formed to help the Congress and
its member-societies contribute to
the strengthening of family life in
the1 United States and Canada.
“There is a deep concern,” he
said, “on the part of myself and
many fellow fraternalists about
the disturbing trend of the bréak-
down of family life on the North
American continent.”
After consultation with many
colleagues, I was moved to give top
priority to ways and means in
which the fraternal benefit systém
might work at strengthening the
role of the family,” Mr. Wehger
said.
Objectives of the Family Life
Committee, President Wenger said,
are:
1) To develop and implehient a
program aimed at strengthening
Communications among members
of families.
2) To make this family emphasis
program available to mernber so-
cieties of the' Congress for use by
their respective local units.
3) To pro vide such information,
