ALTO HIGH SCHOOL
By Quinten Boyd
Sports Editor
After a state championship in
track, district championships
in boys’ basketball and softball
and playoff and regional
qualifiers across the entire
program, Alto athletics took
time to honor their successful
seasons during their annual
all-sports banquet, held
Thursday night.
“We want to thank the
parents, families and the
community for all of the
support we’ve received this
year,” said Alto Athletic
Director Paul Gould. “Thank
you to our kids as well. They
come out each and every day
and they get after it. They’ve
got strong work ethics, both
in their sports and in the
classroom. This approach
will make them tremendous
people in the future.”
The banquet also honored a
coachfor her accomplishments.
Girls’ track and basketball
coach Mildred Brown
announced her retirement
after 31 years during the
ceremony.
The Alto coaching staff
presented her with a
plaque and several of Coach
Brown’s first athletes were in
attendance.
“She taught us how to work
hard and she taught us how
to be young women,” said
Pamala Black. “She was a
blessing to all of us.”
“To God be the glory,” Coach
Brown said. “I’ve been so
blessed to do something I love
for the past 31 years. Thank
you to my family for sharing
me with so many wonderful
young men and women. Thank
you to my former athletes and
my current athletes.
“I’m thankful that I have
a chance to say ‘bye’ and I’m
looking forward to doing a lot
more fishing.”
