Margit Lavada Davis
Funeral services for Margit Lavada Davis, 70, of Diana
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Croley Fu-
neral Home Chapel in Gilmer with Del Manes and Gina
Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Eagle Creek
Cemetery in Harrison County. Lavada Davis went to be
with her Lord and Savior Nov. 3, 2013.
Through her courage and grace she remained a true
servant to God. Lavada above all things prided herself for
being a wonderful wife and mother. She retired from the Up-
shur County Tax Office, where she worked for 23 years. She
continued working at Sam’s Club for another 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Davis of Diana;
sister, Magdalene Evans of Diana; son, Jerry Paul (J.P.)
Davis and wife Tabatha; daughters, Janet Davis of Diana
and Paula Alsobrook and husband David of Diana; grand-
children, Robert Nix, III, Michael Kimery, Lindsey Davis,
Collan Davis, Katelyn Davis, Hunter Greer and Dustin
Alsobrook; nephews and spouses, Mark and Shirley Evans
and Jimmy and Frieda Evans.
The pallbearers for her service will be Brad Beal, Olan
Doxey, Steven Green, David Holly, Chris Russell, Shawn
Stone, Kelsey Trotty and Kelly White.
May God camp his angels around and about our loved
ones, give us strength to hold fast, till we she our beautiful
wife and mother again.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov.
6, at the funeral home.

Vladik Severin Walcik, 102
1911 - 2013
YOAKUM — Vladik Severin Walcik, most recently of
Gilmer, Texas, went to be with the Lord on October 29,2013
at the age of 102.
Vladik was born on October 23, 1911 to Vlasta Dusek
Walick and John Walcik in rural Fort Bend County, Texas
near Orchard.
He married the former Gaynell Taylor of Yoakum, Texas
on May 6,1946.
Vladik served in the U.S. Army during World War II as
a part of Co. A, 542nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment,
Second Engineer Special Brigade. He was stationed in the
Southwest Pacific Theatre.
He was a former postal employee, begining his career as
a substitute clerk in Rosenberg, Texas and ending his career
as Postmaster at Richmond, Texas.
He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in
Rosenberg, Texas in 1951 and served as church clerk for 35
years. He was also a Mason and Past Master of Rosenberg
Lodge 881 A.F. and A.M. Vladik was a member of Milton
Brenner Post 3903 V.F.W. in Rosenberg, Texas.
Vladik was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-
father William H. Rose and sister, Rosole Walcik.
He is survived by his sons Ronald James and wife Eileen
of Killeen, Texas, Roger Wayne and wife Beth of Gilmer,
Texas; granddaughters Melissa Walcik of Killeen, Jaime
Williams and husband James of Harker Heights, Texas,
Sarah Walcik of Gilmer; and great-grandchildren Allyson
and Dustin Williams, as well as several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Friday, November
1, 2013 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum, Texas.
Services were held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2
p.m. at the Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum, Texas
with burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s
choice.

Mr. Vaughn died Sept. 17
in Tyler.
He was born May 12, 1943
in Winnsboro.
He is survived by three

Mesquite; one brother, Leon
Vaughn of Gladewater; and
five sisters, Vivian Davis of
Gladewater, Emily Robertson

ter Opry program will feature
Linda Flesher, Madison Mab-
ry, Lynn Landry, Lexi, Briana,
and Crystal Waller, Riley Lux,

with the Texas Smoke Band.
Tickets are $10 for adults;

downtown Gladewater. Show-

FRESH PUMPKIN PIE
1 medium pie pumpkin
Pastry for single-crust pie
(9 inches)
2 eggs
3/4 cup packed brown sug-
ar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup 2% milk
Cut pumpkin in half length-
wise; discard seeds. Place cut
side down in a microwave-safe
dish; add 1 inch of water. Cover
and microwave on high for 15-18
minutes or until very tender.
Meanwhile, roll out pastry
to fit a 9-in. pie plate. Transfer
pastry to pie plate. Trim pastry
to 1/2 in. beyond edge of plate;
flute edges. Set aside.
Drain pumpkin. When cool
enough to handle, scoop out
pulp and mash. Set aside 1-3/4
cups (save remaining pumpkin
for another use).
In large bowl, combine the
mashed pumpkin, eggs, brown
sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger
and cloves; beat until smooth.
Gradually beat in milk. Pour
into crust.
Bake at 425° for 15 minutes.
Reduce heat to 350°; bake 40-45
minutes longer or until a knife
inserted near the center comes
out clean. Cover edges with foil
during the last 30 minutes to pre-
ventoverbrowningif necessary.
Cool on a wire rack. Refrigerate
leftovers. Yield: 8 servings.

LATCH, Nov. 4 — The
Yamboree is gone for another
year, hoping everyone had a
great time and made lots of
good memories. Katie had a
wonderful time riding the Har-
mony School Float in Friday
and Saturday’s parades.
Elissa Irvin was Miss Har-
mony and her escort was
my grandson, Riley Hen-
son. The float, “Windsor
Palace,’’received first place
in the school floats division.
Elissa was beautiful in her
pink formal dress, along
with the eight beautiful little
girls; (The children of Wind-
sor Palace) dressed in formal
wear, holding a Faberge egg
that matched their dress. The
girls were AvaClaire Castle-
man, Lillie Jones, Triniti and
Allie Mauk, Kennedy Shipp;
Ava Barton, Callie Wade and
Katie Henson.
Sherry Warren’s cousin,
Bill Brock, and his wife Bar-
bara from Lufkin spent the
weekend with her. It had been
20 years since the cousins had
seen each other. They had a
very good time catching up
and reminiscing and vowed
to visit more often.
Thurman Cagle was admit-
ted to Good Shepherd Hospital
on Saturday with heart issues.
Thurman was released on
Wednesday to return home.
Keep Thurman and Bocca in
your prayers.
Karen and Cody Powers
and his college friend, Cody
Mason from Yukon, Okla.
were visitors of Bocca and
Thurman Cagle over the Yam-
boree weekend. Also visiting
the Cagles was Matthew Cagle
from Lindale. The visitors all
enjoyed the Yamboree.
Nelda McCauley continues
to improve at this time, but still
remains in the hospital.
She will be going to a
Longview facility for rehab
soon.

the weekend guest of her
cousin, Carolyn Pruett. They
enjoyed the Yamboree and a
fun trip to Tyler to celebrate
Debbie’s birthday.
Birthday wishes are ex-
tended to Nancy Clark as she
celebrated her 65th birthday
on Thursday. (Nancy gave me
permission to tell her age.) The
family is planning a celebra-
tion for the weekend.

mas in the Park will be held
Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Winns-
boro Civic Center (City Au-
ditorium) at the City Park in

and continue until 3:30 p.m.
