Body found in Strong Community
Sheriff Newton Johnson reports that on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at approximately 6:15 pm, a body was discov-
ered in a wooded area near the Strong community. Sheriff Johnson says that a passerby on a forest service road
noticed the body in the woods and called 9-1-1 to report the incident to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Johnson along with Deputies Jimmy Wagstaff and Pete Davis responded to the location and discovered
the body of a black male in a wooded area approximately one mile west of FM#139. No identification was found
on the body and no immediate cause of death could be determined at the scene.
Justice of the Peace, Pet 5, Jim Powers was notified and came to the scene where an autopsy was ordered.
Community Funeral Home was contacted and transported the body to the Medical Examiners Office in Beaumont.
The body has been identified as that of Ashton Randle, 33 years old, from Logansport, Louisiana. The investiga-
