"HemisFair - 1968' will bring $134 MILLION of new money into the
community - made up of $83 million for construction, $24 million
spent at the Fair, and $27 million spent outside the Fair but in
metropolitan San Antonio by HemisFair visitors
"Hemis-Fair - 1968,1 during its period of construction and operation
will increase retail sales by $174 MILLION, and a total of $86 to $112
MILLION of new wholesale sales will simultaneously be generated.
These are the conservative calculations made by E.R.A., the analysts who estimated the
results of Seattle's Fair in 1962 within one percent of its actual result.

'?y~ WEAT WILL BE THU LASTING VALUE OF '"EMISFAIR - 1968"?
While no one can deny the terrific economic impact of "HemisFair - 1968,* and its spur
toward greater economic security for our citizens, there are many other lasting values
that will form a permanent heritage for San Antonio.
1. The rehabilitation of a major section of the downtown community
has long been t ut,(ybut very little has been accomplished.

Revitalization of major downtown area will be achieved by Urban
Renewal Agency. The "HemisFir - 1968 -will be a tenant - -etm-
pos~W od-ga^I in the grand design. But, by its very nature, the
"HemisFair - 1968" will dramatize, far better than any other
possible device, the fact that San Antonio is truly the "City On
The Go," and the Urban Renewal Project #5, flowing from the Alamo,
the River Bend and LaVillita, will make a truly impressive and
unique downtown city.
2. With the City's creation of a new Convention Center Complex, San
Antonio will project itself into coenft-sn for millions of dollars
