ELVIS PRESLEY SHOW
TO BENEFIT KOUNTZE
LITTLE LEAGUE
By Dick Howell, LL Secretary
This weeks Little League writ-,
ing indicates that more people
are interested about the kids in
a small East Texas town playing
organized baseball than one
would realize. People from far
and near, as the next couple of
paragraphs show, are joining the
B a n d w a gon to help one of the
most important projects everin
Kountze that will help our 8-13
year old boys gain and practice „
courage, sportmanship, team-
work, leadership, and physical
capabilities thatwill project him
into other areas that he might
need these traits. In case you
new here or have not heard
the nationally charted Kountze
Little League Inc. is currently
in the process of building a new
Little League Ballpark complete
with a building to house conses-
sions, pressbox, toilets, storage
and meeting room. This layout
is to be one of the finests in this
area. This very Big project was
started from scratch with nothing
but desire and dreams of local
youths being on the same level
as any community anywhere by
15 aggressive men who compose
the Board of Directors. These
menareCecilCain, AlfredCar-
ter, Carroll Cole, T. S. Hooks,
Elton Spivey, George Christian,
"Coach" Golson, Preston Car-
michael, T.E. Halsel, Dick

on the next fund raising event
which is to be held March 9,10 ,

Thursday at the Gay Theater.
The showing of the " Roustabout^
with who else but Elvis Presley,
will be on the screen nightly at
7:00 and 8:30 and at popular
prices. It was not the intent of
the Little League to have this show
on school nights but the film
was secured when it was avail-
able. 100% of the proceeds will
go to the LL and the total cost
will be about $25. Some of the
ladies met Wednesday to make
final arrangements.
The high school speech class
taught by Ted Tate turned over
$20. to die LL Treasurer which
was proceeds from their play
staged a couple of weeks back.
Thanks Boys, Girls, and Coach
Tate for this generous contribu-
tion which was strictly their own
idea.
Workers this past week include
Buck Pace, Herburt & Hubert
Hargraves; David, Gearld, and
Joe Anders; John Traugott; James
Clark; Clarance McCoy; T.E.
Halsel; Robert Johnson; Jerry De-
Dear; Coach Golson; Preston
Carmichael; A. D. McMillian;
S. Gonalles, and a couple of
more names misplaced but will
have them next week.
The eligables list is inc om -
piete but records from Mr. Jones
show 69 boys in the 5th, 6th, and
7th grades are eligable with Mr.
Heatons 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders
list to be completed and instruc-
tions and notification of regis -
tration sent to each parent by
mail. We again remind you of
the importance of the Birth cer-
tificates. The boys thems e Ives
will not need one cent of cash to
participate. All they will need is
a glove and shoes(no shoes with
metal cleats), We-.all have sev-
eral boys who can not furnish
their own gloves and shoes but
do not let this keep your boy from
registering to play. Their are
several people who do not have
sons but are willing to "Go to
bat for s om eb ody elses boy."
Buy a ticket even if you do not
plan to attend the Elvis Presley
Show. These boys need that do-
nation. GO LITTLE LEAGUE!! !

W.M. THERIOT FILES FOR
C-L SCHOOL TRUSTEE
I am announcing my candidacy
in the e 1 e c t i on to be held on
April 3, 1965 for the position of
trustee of the Chance-Loeb Sc-
hool District. I am a native of
Kaplan, Louisana, am 35 years
old, have resided in the state of
Texas for the past seven years
and at 260 Bayou Drive in Ar-
te sian Acres for the past four
years. I have been a c t i ve in
c o m m u n ity affairs as a board
member and past president of the
Artesian Acres Civic Council
and as a former councilman of
the city of Rose Hill Acres.
I am a veteran of four yea rs
service in the USAF, a graduate
of the University of Southwestern
Louisiana, and am employed by
Mobil Chemical Company as a
senior process engineer. My'
family and I are members of St.
Stephen’s Espiscopal Chur chin
Beaumont.
The eldest three of four child-
ten attend Chance-Loeb Elemen-
tary School, sol have a personal
interest in the school system. I
am entering this contest because
I believe that the school board
should be responsive to-the ex-
pressed wishes of the majority
of the people in the conduct of
the business of the district.
I am i n te re s ted in a school
building program geared to the
means and resources of the corrf-
munity as well as to the educa-
tional needs of its children, I
believe that an adequate educa-
tional program can be conducted
with a reasonable capital in-
vestment; that the alternatives to
a building program should re-
ceive careful study and consid-
eration. I am concerned about
the recent increase in taxes and
further proposed increases in the
near future.
I appeal for the support of the
voters who are convinced of the
need for an educational program
for our children at a cost we can
affaid.
