Elaine Morris will entertain with
a repertoire of popular music from
the 1920s to present day at Sunset
Sounds on Aug. 8.
The free concert will be at 7 p.m.
in the amphitheater at Roberts Point
Park.
Morris has participated in the
Sunset Sounds concert series since
its inception in 1996. She is a classi-
cally trained pianist and vocalist and
has been performing for small ven-

Guests are encouraged to bring a
chair or blanket, and are welcome
to bring picnic suppers and coolers
to enjoy while listening to the mu-
sic and watching the dolphins lead
ships through the ship channel.
The remaining line up of enter-
tainment for this season is: Sept. 12,
American music with Picking
Hands; and Oct. 10, happy island
sounds with Patsy Jones.

ment at 749-4158.

Rehearsing for shows

CenturyTel customers in Port
Aransas will begin receiving their
2003 telephone directory, The Op-
portunity Pages, in the mail late next
week. The new directories feature a
special “report card” where custom-
ers can grade their CenturyTel ser-
vices.
“With this report card, customers
can directly tell us how we are doing
as their communications provider.
They can give us a grade and tell us
what we’re doing right, where we need
to improve and what services they
would like us to offer,” said Tracey
Moses, public relations manager.
“Customers will find the report
card on the last page of the telephone
directory. Once the customer com-
pletes the report card, they can mail
them in either with their telephone
bill or directly to the address printed
on the card,” Moses explained.
“CenturyTel will review every report
card, and address any service or sales
issues."
Moses said the new directory also
contains a wide range of informa-
tion such as yellow page ads and list-
ings of area businesses; local listings
for Port Aransas; instructions for
using calling features and a commu-
nity section featuring attractions and
special events in Port Aransas.
“Additional copies may be ob-
tained, at no extra cost, by calling
the Customer Contact Center at 1-
800-201-4099 (residential) or 1-800-
201-4102 (business). Customers also
may update their records so that they
receive an adequate number of di-
rectories each year,” Moses said.

Shows to feature synchronized swimmers
T he Coastal Bend Dolphins syn-
chronized swim team will present
“Tropical Illusions” Tuesday and
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Port
Aransas Community Park pool.
The show is directed by Sharon
Schafer, swim club instructor.
“If you combine the strength and
agility of a water polo player, the
stamina of a long distance runner,
the flexibility of a gymnast, and the
grace of a ballerina, then a synchro-
nized swimmer would be the result,”
Schafer said.

“Synchronized swimming is an

It’s a unique water sport in which

“The body movements of syn-
chronized swimming require train-
ing nearly every muscle in the body
to a fine edge without creating any
distorting over-development. The
flexibility and extension of a gym-
nast is essential for top performance
while the swimming of a routine
normally requires the strength and
endurance of a good middle distance
swimmer,” Schafer said.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets
are available at the door.
