To Nacogdoches Church
PORTLAND - The Rev M K
Ellis has lieen called as pastor of
the Baptist Churcti in Nacogdoches.
Texas. He and his wife came to
Portland from Dumas, trk. Oc-

The Youth Cen-
ter is assured to Portland after
ten years of delay. Construction
will start after the first of the
year and it will lie ready for use
by early spring.
The Youth Center Carnival was
a real evening of fun, from the
viewpoint of pleasure and profit.
The gross was $550,75. Jerry Hunt,
lots! cm tie raiser ond cotton dust-
er. donated a calf which was
raffled off and won by Lefty Rob-
erts. Tito gross from to- ’f was
$292.25.
Maple Willi: ms and son .Toe,
who are carnival owners, helped
with their knowledge find also the
deviation of $75.00 in prizes which
were used in the games. They also
put. up all the booths and took
them down. Some of the Fire De-
partment men also helped in the
booths.
Serdra Roberts was named
uueeri of die Carnival with 85150
votes. Curly Whittaker, Chairman
for tne Youth Center, wanted to
thank everyone for helping and
also those who came for making
it a real success.

Clubs of Corpus Cbristi joined to-
geijier last Wednesday morning
at City Hall in Portland in giv-
ing plants to replace those de-
stroyed by the tornado last month.
They went like hot cakes and the
people of Portland really appreci-
ated it.

ing business, and the hamburgers
were sold an fast as the men
